This book is the second by Smith recounting Arkady Renko's adventures, yet it is amazingly detailed in it's description of a world most people will never know, that of a factory ship in the Bering Sea. For readers, the seas come alive as Renko hurries to solve a case that will save the reputation of some, and perhaps his own life. Dodging attempts on his life and threats about national security, he uses his investigative skills, long since in use, to solve a seemingly simple, yet essentially complicated murder. Like Gorky Park, this book takes place in another foreign land whose beauty cannot be argued against. Smith's prose draws the reader into the story and the setting, and has captured the minds of millions. It is very highly recommended.
