This story tells about their journey through the Specter-infested city of Cittągazze, and it tells of Will's destiny. Beset upon by vengeful gangs of children and accompanied by angels, the pair escapes death at every turn. They venture in and out of Will's world to meet scientists who study Shadows and run into Mrs. Coulter again. They learn Lord Asriel is amassing a great army in order to fight the second battle in a legendary war and that their own destinies seemed entwined with the war, though they know not how. More exciting and enchanting than the first, Pullman has done a wonderful job of creating characters whose lives and deaths break the reader's heart. This is only the second in the series that looks to be bestselling and well-worn by readers of all ages.
