Henry’s Place

In the warmth of summer's night…

Just before approaching fall…

Out a ways from Slappy Drive…

Up the Old Dawson road near the new city mall…

Each evening in the dim lights

I stole from across the road, ever so bold…

Punched out on the time clock….

Only moments before---then I took my dive…

Went into Henry's Place, it was alive…

Youth, eager to engage the fairer sex, unaware of Life's pitfalls…

She…and me met at Henry's Place…a nice cozy retreat…

A social, friendly upscale bars and grill…

Live band …got me a beer in my hand…

Add to this a sandwich, beer, disco and rock, air-conditioned air, a place

To meet the opposite sex, sit and chat -a nice place to meet them at…

I spied her in a corner chair where I sat, the minute she walked by,

Dressed so nice, mere 18,as she walked so smooth and clean…rather tall and lean…

Over there she took a chair and seemed all alone…

A real cool one …she was to me with her legs crossed and skirt above her knee…

So I went over and asked her to dance….

Up she came with a smile and followed me onto the dance floor that night.

She was a goddess in silk and skin so white…

She swayed in my arms and we followed the rhythm closed so tight in each others

Arms that heavenly night…. Her head touching mine and the smell of her perfume so divine…

Ah what a soul…. She was wonderful to hold

I knew from the start…. This chick was for me …I could tell no lie…

So, we danced on into the night and laughed and looked lovingly in each others eyes…

God…gives me this sweet thing for my mate…

Soon, I asked her for a date.

And so we met countless times that year, hot passionate love it was each time…

And neither her nor I could see no wrong -for us, our will was strong…

And so a year passed by, another too…. Neither seemed that long…

She swelled with child, that is the natural way…

I saw what was coming…now don't judge me wrong…

Left the other day before it was to late…

Just before the due date….

Hell I couldn't stay, ain't no way!

This dude was wrong when he thought he was strong…

Oh! How now life seems such a waste…

Man, I really got a strong taste!

No more do I go for a visit to Henry's place….
