Foul Language, the MPAA, Classism and You

Most of the stuff here I got from South Park, the Movie- okay, so maybe their choice of delivery could have been better. And I can't actually use the curse words, or my web site would be shut down by the man. Regardless, here goes:

The MPAA, the Motion Picture Association of America, has decided that the worst thing a young person can hear or see (besides sex, maybe I'll get to that later) is foul language. Curse words can harm a child much more than witnessing violence, even. Think about that- does that make any sense whatsoever? If I kill a guy by shooting him in the head, at least I didn't tell someone I was going to blow their f**king head off. Obviously talking about it is the greater evil.

And what are curse words, anyways? I thought that although "sticks and stones may break my bones, words will never hurt me"- was that all a lie? I mean, curse words are basically slang. I can say poo (funny), excrement (unpleasant), feces (weird), or sh!t (horrible). It's basically slang, right? C'mon, the f-bomb, one of the greatest and most versatile words in existence is the worst of them all, except for slang words that mean male and female genitalia (again with the sex). 'F**k' is often used of emphasis, without any negative or sexual conotations at all: "Man, the blueberry muffin is f**king good!"

But why are THESE words so bad? Because they are the vernacular of the common folk, the groundlings- US. Hundreds of years ago, the rich people who owned slaves and paid 10 year olds a penny a day to make shoes (I'll deal with Nike another day, too) decided they would no longer like to hear the words that poor people used. So these words were deemed uncouth, unpleasant, and "foul". To hear the words brought forth images and smells that were unbearable for the rich. It still continues, but most people don't realize. Why can't you use curse words on TV? In movies? People are allowed to use other slang words, and improper grammer in films doesn't have congress throwing fits. It would be just as silly to suddenly decide that contractions like "I'm", "can't", and "G'day, Guvner" are now lumped in with curse words. If you say "I'd like the number 3 special" in a restaurant, mothers would cover their children's ears and the owner would escort you out.

So what does this have to do with the MPAA? Well, those motherf**kers are dictating to society what is right and what is proper with their rating system. Sorry mom and dad, but movies are shaping the minds of children more than anything (except video games and TV, maybe, but their rating system is a shadow of the movie biz). If the MPAA decides it doesn't really matter who hears curse words, because they don't affect jack squat, in like 2 years nobody is going to give a rat's ass about them. When they don't make people shush you, there's no point in using them. They would fade away into background noise. Notice that violence and bloodshed is allowed by the MPAA to be viewed by young children, and somehow violence and bloodshed have become part of the background of our entire society- coincidence? Allow me to slap you silly.
