BLACK SABBATH-LIVE AT LAST
*****
This album was recorded live at the Manchester and the Rainbow Theatre in London sometime around 1972/73. It was recorded on the Vol 4 tour. This, to me, is their best live album yet. Considering the new album is, well, a little TOO good. And "Live Evil" is with Dio. The great thing about this album is that unless you are a complete retard, you wont pay more than 8 bucks for this lp on CD. God bless shady record companies from Europe. Which sends me off on another tangent real quick. If you go to your local mall, you will usually find that the first 3 Sabbath CDs and this one for around 8 bucks. There is some company that puts out the same first 3 CDs that Warner Brothers does, but they're cheaper but just as good. I dont know why, go ask some freak on the Sabbath Mailing List. The funny thing about this album is that when it was released in 1980, it sold better than Ozzys debut lp and a lot better Sabbaths 1980 LP Heaven And Hell.
Anyway, this album is grand. They open with Tommorows Dream. Ive never been a huge fan of this song but it sounds good live, so, great. Next is Sweet Leaf. Not much change here. See, I really cant analyize the songs here cause I already did that on the other LPs. I can only tell you that Killing Yourself To Live is 100 times better than the LP version. Okay, next is Cornocopia then Snowblind. I must admit, this version of Children Of The Grave is the best yet. War Pigs isnt too bad, then we have Wicked World. This is their longest song on here, but its pretty cool. They tease you with the intro to Into The Void and half of Supernaut all in here. "Uh oh, shows over, do you think they'll be back? I mean, they havent played Paranoid yet, you think they will do an encore?" Yeah, Paranoid closes the album. Hey, great.
This album is great because the bass is clear and booming. The reason I love this album is the giant SCREEEECH before each song of Iommi's guitar feedbacking, assuring the listener that the amps are set way past 11. This so called "legit" recording is the best live recording of Sabbath I have heard yet. After that it would be Paris 1970. But you are only gonna find that by dealing with shady bootlegers. Just ask me, I'll copy it for you since Im such a sweet guy.
So, honestly, if you dont own much Sabbath, go get this one now. Its better than a greatest hits, they dont play Iron Man on here, and its only 8 bucks on CD. You cant lose.
