Otter's Listening Habits
Dec-Jan. 98-99
N.W.A./Greatest Hits--Oh yeah daddy, hardcore rap. If you like hardcore punk why would you not like hardcore rap?! This disc has all the classics like "Fuck Tha police" and "Straight Outta Compton." It is punk so deal with it.
Fugazi/Steady Diet of Nothing-- I never really knew where to classify fugazi, but I really have grown to love this album lately. I think it is simply a good alternative to boring rock music. Not quite punk but too indie to be alternative. There is no way to explain this. Just buy it because it's good and super cheap from Dischord.
A Tribe Called Quest/The Love Movement--The ultimate in smooth hip hop. Very little sampling, good rapping and great beats. Those are the keys to talented rap. Did I mention that it's smooth? It's for those 'laid back' moods that I often have.
A.C./40 More Reasons To Hate Us--The best noise band ever to come out of the USA. This band is as heavy as it can get. If you crave speed, death, punk and just pure filth...you'll like Anal Cunt. Best song title on this album :
"Everyone in the underground music scene is stupid"
Portishead/Live in NYC--Dark music out of England that is perfect for those moments where you just want to space out and stare at nothing while feeling sick with your own questionable existence. There are strange sounds and turntable scratchings beneath a layer of orchestra noise and a female voice. Creepy stuff that I totally dig. I can't believe they pull it off live.
