Wind River Range

The Wind River Range is located in west-central Wyoming and is the largest Laramide uplift in the province. The structure of the uplift is a long dipslope on the northeastern side, where sediments lay over the edge. Facing southwest is the front of a large thrust fault. The rocks of the thrust were transported on top of the sedimentary rocks of the Green River Basin. Seismic analysis and oil well drilling has shown that the fault does not steepen with depth, as most thrust faults in Wyoming often do.
