FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OF MONTREAL PREPARE TWO ALBUMS FOR RELEASE

Athens, Georgia based pop band OF MONTREAL announced today, via their record label Kindercore Records, the impending release of two albums worth of material.

One, “Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies; A Variety of Whimsical Verse” is the band’s first album of all-new material since their 1998 release for Bar/None Records, “The Gay Parade”. It is scheduled for release on April 3rd, 2001.

Of Montreal leader, Kevin Barnes says that this album is the “first true ‘band’ record” the group has ever made. “It is the first time we have all collaborated together during the writing and recording process” he explained.

Along with Barnes, Of Montreal also includes multi-instrumentalists Dottie Alexander, Jamey Huggins, Andy Gonzales, Derek Almstead, and Barnes’ brother David who also creates the bands artwork and stage sets.

“There will be a story included in the artwork that will tie everything together for those, like me, who are interested in that sort of thing. David has created illustrations for most of the songs and there will also be a poster fold out illustration that will be included in the packaging as well”, Barnes said.

Kindercore Records confirms that “Coquelicot” will contain the most elaborate packaging of any release by the label to date. Kindercore’s Ryan Lewis states that “Dave Barnes has come a long way. The drawings for “Coquelicot” are amazing. There is one for each of the 27 or so songs. The book is going to be about 30 color pages”.

Barnes continues, “The songs on ‘Coquelicot’ aren't a departure from those on our previous albums but are instead a mix of our favorite elements of the past. There is something for everyone on ‘Coquelicot’. Slow moody numbers, zany tunes with dialogue, up tempo madness pop, a song about a wax museum, a detective story, an extended piano instrumental, a story about three legged hyena cicadas, visions into a pure and maniacal love affair and most importantly many, many songs of escapism. ‘Coquelicot’ is a world without logic or consequences”.

To appease the will of Of Montreal fans in a Napster generation, Kindercore will make available four tracks from “Coquelicot” in the MP3 format leading up to its release on April 10th, 2001.

The tracks will be available on the 15th of each month for thirty days only, November 2000 through February 2001. Users can visit www.kindercore.com, www.fanaticpromotion.com or www.tinytelephone.com to access the tracks, the first of which is entitled “Penelope”.

In addition to “Coquelicot”, Kindercore Records will also release an album of older Barnes compositions, simply titled “The Early Four Track Recordings", on January 9th, 2001. This record explores Barnes’ early songs recorded before forming Of Montreal. As is the custom with this humorous outfit, a bizarre tale has surfaced alluding to the fact that all of the songs on “Four Track” were inspired by actor Dustin Hoffman, who Barnes claims was the man who turned him to music in the first place.

A look at a few of the song titles on the upcoming disc confirms this. “Dirty Dustin Hoffman Needs A Bath”, “Dustin Hoffman Gets A Bath”, “Dustin Hoffman Thinks About Eating The Soap”, “Dustin Hoffman Scrubs Too Hard and Loses The Soap” and “Dustin Hoffman Does Not Resist Temptation To Eat The Bathtub” are just a few of the songs to be included on the record.
