Art Activities

Hand wreath-Trace each childs hands numerous times(10 or as many as possible) on skin colors (tan, flesh, brown, black, etc;). Cut out and glue together in a circular fashion, to create a wreath. Add a heart at the top. On the heart, write the phrase: I have a dream... Then add ribbon. Hang with masking tape.

"Dream" Handprints-Have each child dip his hand in brown paint on press onto one side of the paper. Then dip in flesh color and press onto the other side of the paper. In between the two hands, glue a piece of paper that says "I have a dream...."

Pudding-Make vanilla and chocolate pudding. Give the students some of each and some red sprinkles. Let the children mix and sprinkle as they wish. Enjoy!!

Cupcakes-Make cupcakes and frost with white or chocolate frosting. Add sprinkles. Sing Happy Birthday to Martin Luther King.

Bulletin Boards

Place the I have a Dream Handprints on the Bulletin Board. Title the Bulletin Board: I have a Dream. Underneath, place the remaining: that one day, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and girls and walk together as sisters and brothers". Place student's names under their handprints. At the bottom, we place the ending phrase in large letters: Martin Luther King, we are fulfilling your dream......
