Welcome to The Madhouse Collection @ Soul Legends featuring some of the rarest Prince-related music recorded during the 1985-1993 period. Expanding on the 2 instrumentals from 'The Family' (1985), Prince needed an outlet for most of the jazz-funk music that he had composed. The eventual 'Madhouse' projects featured Prince, Sheila E., Eric
Leeds (previously a member of 'The Family'), and Levi Seacer, Jr. In 1993, the lineup was changed & musicians from The New Power Generation (Sonny T. & Michael B.) were also featured. This new lineup became known as 'The New Power Madhouse' in some circles.
Most (if not all!) of the songs were written & produced by Prince under the name 'Madhouse', or co-written with
bandmember Eric Leeds (saxophone & flute). Madhouse or 'New Directions In Garage Music', continues to be in high demand almost 20 years after the initial release in 1987, but the CDs/albums are also out of print. [NOTE - Most of the Madhouse-related albums/CDs are expensive collector's items, and are still available on sites like Ebay.com.]
