This is a classic picture of Phyllis at her zenith! If i'm not mistaken, this was around the time she was featured in Spike Lee's "School Daze" (circa 1987). What captivated me the most about her was not just her voice and her great looks, but also her fashion sense! I was only about ten or eleven and somewhat of a fashion design prodigy when I discovered Phyllis. She will always be a source of inspiration to me. her kind of polish and sophistication (as well as sheer talent) are sorely missing these days.

THERE ARE TIMES OR EVENTS IN LIFE THAT YOU REMEMBER FOREVER. THE DEATH OF PHYLLIS HYMAN WAS ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS. IT IS SUCH A SHAME THAT A BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED PERSON WAS IN SO MUCH EMOTIONAL PAIN AND HAD TO RESORT TO SUCH DRASTIC MEASURES FOR RELIEF.
HER VOICE IS SO DISTINCTIVE THAT WHEN YOU HEAR ONE OF HER SONGS YOU KNOW IMMEDIATELY WHO IT IS. THAT IS THE MARK OF A GREAT VOCALIST. AS I AM WRITING THIS FROM WORK, I AM LISTENING TO THE "UNDER HER SPELL" CD. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HER NOT JUST AS A SINGER, BUT AS A PERSON. GOD BLESS YOU PHYLLIS YOU ARE TRULY MISSED.
