Often times employers take advantage of the
fact that MOST employees DO NOT know their
rights and laws that protect them. This is a
list that will constantly be added to.
**EMPLOYEES PAYING OR MISTAKES** Employers
can NOT make you pay for mistakes in ordering
food, as long as it was not intentional. They
can NOT make you pay for walk outs either. If
they take money out of your check, they are
breaking the law. The only way someone can
garnish your wages is a court order (to sue
you in court).
**UNIFORMS**(I am 99% sure on this one, but
am waiting to get a confirmation on it)
Employers either have to provide you with
your first uniform or let you wear something
found in most closets (oxford shirts, khaki
pants, ect...). What all that means is, if
you get hired at some place, your employer
can't make you buy a uniform that has a
restaurant logo on it. They cant make you buy
an apron or anything like that. If they
choose not to GIVE it to you then you can
wear "typical" attire. If you were ever hired
at a place that charged you for uniforms,
then they most likely asked you to sign a
paper agreeing to the garnishment. If you
sign it then you have signed your right to
fight them over it in court or through the
dpt. of labor. I will post it when I am 100%
sure on this.
