TREEHOUSE OF HORROR

THE SET-UP -

Bart and Lisa tell each other scary stories up in the treehouse, as Homer eavedrops outside.

1. BAD DREAM HOUSE -

The Simpsons move into an old house and soon learn why the price was so cheap: it is haunted. The walls ooze blood, and a voice tells them to get out while they still can. Marge wants to leave, but Homer convinces her to give the house a chance.

That night, Homer, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie are possesses and chase each other with knives and axes. Marge tells the spirit of the house to find a way they can all live together. After pondering its options, the house blows itself up.

2. HUNGRY ARE THE DAMNED -

The Simpsons are abducted from their backyard by one-eyed extraterrestrials. En route to another planet, they learn that they are the guests of honor. They are offered an endless feast of food and thoroughly gorge themselves. Lisa accuses the aliens of fattening up the family so that they can be eaten. The aliens' feelings are hurt. They turn the spaceship around and return the Simpsons to their lowly lives. Lisa concludes that it was the Simpsons who were the real monsters.

3. THE RAVEN

Lisa reas Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale of horror. As Homer listens, he visualizes himself as the narrator, Marge and Lenore, and Bart as the raven.

After telling their stories in the treehouse, the kids return home to go to bed. They doze peacefully, while Homer sleeps with the lights on.

BAD DREAM HOUSE -
• Tombstones in the basement of the haunted house: Hiawatha, Crazy Horse, Not-So-Crazy Horse, Pocahontas, Sitting Bull, Cachise, Tonto, Gernimo, Sacajawea, and Mahatma Gandhi.
• The bunny doll beside the box that Bart unpacks appears to be the "Life in Hell" character, Binky the rabbit.
• Marge wears bunny slippers.
• As Bart and Lisa leave the house, their coats fly onto them.
• Maggie's pajamas change colors from blue to gray to pink during the story.
• A moat encircles the Simpsons' new house.

  HUNGRY ARE THE DAMNED -

• Homer's cooking apron "Mafia Staff Apron."
• The TV on the spaceship airs "The Itchy and Scratchy Show."
• The angle of the shot that features Homer and Marge discussing the great feast makes it appear that their heads are on platters.

  THE RAVEN -

• The hands of the wisps of smoke that cradle Homer's head have just three fingers and a thumb, like the Simpsons.
• The word "Amontillado" appears on Homer's drinking mug, referring to the Poe story, "The Cask of Amontillado."
• The Raven/Bart drops "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Telltale Heart," and "The Purloined Letter," all stories by Poe, on Homer's head.
