Those of you who know and love someone who has been stricken with cancer know that it changes your life forever. Your whole existence revolves around that "C word", as my son use to call it.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988 and our lives have never been the same. I live daily with the fear that I also will develop this disease.
The purpose of this page is to educate all about the disease. Many myths and misconceptions exist about breast cancer. I have included links to what I think contain the most updated information about breastcancer.



MYTHS

1) Coffee increases your risk of breast cancer.
2) Only women with a family history of breast cancer are at risk.
3) A mastectomy ensures that the cancer is gone forever.
4) Breast cancer self exams done routinely will find all all cancers in a curable state.
5) Only women get breast cancer.


FACTS

1) 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer.
2) Every 11 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.
3) In 1994 1,721,700 women had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
4) In 1994 183,000 were diagnosed with breast cancer.
5) This year 185,700 will be diagnosed, of these 1,400 will be men.
