CNN/SI Todd Chat Highlights

On Thursday, July 23 at 4pm EST, me and a few other crazy Todd fans logged onto an IRC chat sponsored by CNN/SI to chat with Todd for 30 minutes (and let me tell you, that was not enough time!). Even though I remained quiet throughout the chat (everyone was asking the questions I would ask before I asked them) I did take a few notes done on what was said. Here is a quick summary of what was said and highlights of a few interesting comments Todd made. If you want to read the entire transcript go to Virginia's Toddwear Page
.

Q/A 1: The first question asked was what Todd envisioned he would be doing in ten years and he stated that he hoped to be in different competitions and ice shows. As a Todd fan, it is great to hear that he hopes to continue skating in ten years!

Q/A 2: The next question he was asked what programs he would be performing at the Goodwill Games. He stated that he would be performing the same ones he did at Worlds (Les Miserables and First Knight). For all of us "HBO" fans (see Toddwear page for explanation) we say YEAH!

Q/A 3: Todd stated that in the future he does hope to explore other music. But for me, as long as Todd is skating...who cares about the music

Q/A 4: Todd stated that he does hope to continue in only ISU Open events to keep his Olympic eligibility.

Q/A 5: Todd stated that "If his body is up to it" he hopes to give the Olympics another try.

Q/A 6-8: Basic Todd stuff about planning programs, time away from home, and his spinning ability.

Q/A 9: Todd stated that he is aware of fan sites for him...and think they are great (whew!...that question worried me!)

Q/A 10: Todd was then asked about the new OBO scoring system. He truthfully answered that he did not know how it worked, so he didn't have an opinion on it.

Q/A 11: Todd was asked how he selects music. He mentioned the usual sources (music stores, etc.) then he said he took suggestions! Hmm, I wonder what music I could suggest...

Q/A 12-13: Todd stated that being on the road can be good and bad, and he wished he was home more. He also stated he did have days where he "rather be on the golf course".

Q/A 14: Todd then was asked what he relationship is with other skaters. He said that it is "pretty good" and he has played golf with some of them.

Q/A 15: This question Todd was asked about his shoulder...his answer, it is 90% to 100%. He also called 1997 Skate America an "interesting competition".

Q/A 16: When asked about his favorite competition Todd answered (duh!) the 1996 Worlds.

Q/A 17: What music does Todd listen to? He stated almost anything, but he likes classic rock such as Pink Floyd and Elton John.

Q/A 18-19: Todd was asked about choregraphy and his training schedule.

Q/A 20: This was an answer that surprised me! Todd was asked if he had ever considered writing an autobiography. Not only has he but he actually attempted to write one last year. However, he believes his career is "not over yet" and he doesn't have enough to make it worthwhile (Yeah right! If Tara can do it...so can Todd!).

Q/A 21: Attention doubters! When asked about the quad Todd stated that he not only will keeping trying it this season, but he might try it at the Goodwill Games!update: Todd did not try the quad at the Goodwill Games but it was not needed for him to win the gold medal!

Q/A 22: Interesting golf information: Todd stated that his highest score in golf is 73 and that he recently played in a tournament and will be in Scott Hamilton's tournament soon.

Q/A 23: When asked if he wasn't a skater, what his career would be, Todd answered that it would still probably be in sports. Perhaps golf since he likes it so much, but not basketball, he is not tall enough.

Q/A 24: About the fan mail he gets...which is a lot!

Q/A 25: Todd stated he likes all the feedback he gets from his fans, that he is "serious", "determined". but a "normal guy". He signs autographs and goes the extra mile for his fans because he wants to give back to his fans for seeing him (isn't that sweet?)

Q/A 26: He was asked about his summer...tiring!

Q/A 27: Todd stated that he does not see skating moving either to the artistic nor the technical side. He sees the technical aspect as only a natural progession, but artistry is still needed!

Q/A 28: When asked his hardest jump he said THE QUAD. His favorite jumps? The toe loop and the axel.

Q/A 29: When asked about his favorite music he has skated to he mentioned First Knight and "Andrea Bocelli" (Il Mare...). Speaking for the rest of crazy Todd fans...WE AGREE!

At the end of the chat he asked all his fans to cheer loud at the tv on Wednesday (July 29)...he needs the encouragement. I, for one, will be screaming extra loud!
