Stock InfoQ: Do you have a direct purchase plan?
A: You can't purchase your first share from the Company, but after your initial purchase, you may buy additional shares (up to $125,000 per year) and reinvest dividends in Company stock. To participate, you must be a share owner of record (shares held in your name, not held in "street name" by a broker). All costs and commissions associated with joining and participating in the plan are paid by the Company. The plan's administrator, First Chicago Trust Company of New York, purchases stock for voluntary cash investments on or about the first of each month, and for dividend reinvestments on April 1, July 1, October 1 and December 15.

Products and PackagingQ: Why are refillable bottles so hard to find?
A: These bottles are not available in many areas now because research has shown that consumers in the United States prefer the convenience of recyclable packaging and curbside recycling programs to the task of returning bottles. Additionally, local bottlers throughout the United States offer packages based on what consumers in their areas buy, and most consumers purchase recyclable packaging.
In some areas, 8-ounce recyclable glass contour bottles are available. You may want to check with your local bottler to see if they distribute these 8-ounce bottles.
Q: Why can't regular bottles be refilled?
A: The current 8-ounce bottles are not made to withstand the refilling process. Refillable bottles must contain more glass and are, therefore, thicker and heavier than the current bottle. In fact, you may have noticed that the current 8-ounce bottle has almost the same outside dimensions as the 6-1/2-ounce returnable bottle. The difference is in the amount of glass used to make it.
Q: Where can I find my favorite product or package type in my area?
A: It's up to your local bottling company to determine which products to package and sell in their territory, based on consumer demand and other market factors. Since the bottlers live and work in the area, they are in the best position to make those decisions.
Q: Why can't you make the bottling company make my favorite product or use my favorite package?
A: At the Atlanta headquarters, we'd be thrilled to see all of our products available in all areas and in all packaging. But that's just not feasible. There are too many options out there. The local bottling companies have to choose which products to package and sell in their territories based on consumer demand and other market factors.

HistoryQ: Who, when and where was Coca-Cola first invented? And who came up with the name?
A: Coca-Cola was invented in May, 1886, by Dr. John S. Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The name "Coca-Cola" was suggested by Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. He penned the name Coca-Cola in the flowing script that is famous today. Coca-Cola was first sold at a soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Willis Venable.
During its first year, sales of Coca-Cola averaged six drinks a day -- adding up to total sales for that year of $50. Since the year's expenses were just over $70, Dr. Pemberton took a loss.
Today, Coca-Cola products are consumed at the rate of more than 900 million drinks per day. For more Coca-Cola history, click here.

General InfoQ: Where can I find information about The Coca-Cola Company for a school project?
A: There's all sorts of information available on the site. The About The Coca-Cola Company section provides earnings, news releases and more background info. Special exhibits and a weekly history segment can be found in the World Of Coca-Cola Museum section.
Q: I've looked everywhere and can't find the specific information I need. Now what?
A: You can request our Annual Report. In addition, you'll be surprised by what you can find in the library. There are a number of books available, as well as publications like Beverage World, Beverage Digest, The Wall Street Journal, Advertising Age and AdWeek.
Q: Where can I find information about the Company's international operations?
A: Our Annual Report gives a lot of detailed information about our global operations.

LabelingQ: What are Phenylketonurics?
A: Actually, it's "who." Phenylketonurics are persons with a rare hereditary disease (1 in 15,000) known as phenylketonuria (PKU). Individuals with PKU cannot metabolize the essential amino acid phenylalanine. Aspartame is made primarily of two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine. These two amino acids are found naturally in all protein-containing foods, including meats, grains, and dairy products. Several governments require that aspartame-containing products contain a warning indicating this for the safety of the few in the population with this disease. If you live in the U.S., you will know if you have PKU because all Americans are screened at birth for this disease.
Q: How can Coca-Cola classic be the original formula when it now contains HFCS?
A: Coca-Cola classic is the original formula. High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS, beet sugar and cane sugar are essentially the same when added to a soft drink. Because there is also no noticeable taste difference, bottlers have the option of using either sweetener depending on availability and cost. The only difference between HFCS, beet sugar or cane sugar is the source of sugar. In solution, sucrose and HFCS are both composed of approximately equal amounts of glucose and fructose.
Q: Who certifies that your products are kosher?
A: For those products that are certified as kosher, The Coca-Cola Company manufactures beverage syrups and concentrates under rabbinical supervision. As you may be aware, it is left to the discretion of each bottler to have the finished beverages certified by a rabbi. The rabbi's approval or certification is usually noted on the label.
Q: What are the ingredients in your products?
A: The principal ingredients used in all of our soft drinks are listed in the ingredient declaration on the bottle crown or closure, the can or the label of the larger sized bottles. As do all food and drink manufacturers, we conform to all labeling regulations just as we comply with all other laws of the countries in which our products are sold.
Because flavor formulations are very valuable proprietary information, we do not discuss the blend of flavoring materials used by The Coca-Cola Company.

TechnicalQ: How do I download from your page?
A: If you want to download a TV commercial, sound clip or screensaver, we always provide specific instructions -- usually to click a red and white arrow. For other parts of the site, you'll have to follow the rules of the browser you're using.
Q: How can I link my page to your page?
A: You can always reference www.cocacola.com in your HTML document.
Q: Can you put a link in your page to mine?
A: Since we really can't be responsible for the content of other sites on the Web, we limit our links out to just a few sites at a time -- most of which are promotional partnerships.

PromotionsQ: When can I expect to receive my prize(s)?
A: The process of verifying game pieces and shipping prizes normally takes six to eight weeks. We appreciate your patience.
Q: It's already been more than eight weeks. What now?
A: Call 1-800-GET-COKE (1-800-438-2653), and a representative will be happy to assist you. (This toll-free number is available to consumers in the USA and Canada).
Q: I'm not in the USA or Canada. How can I find out about my prize?
A: If you've participated in a promotion outside the USA or Canada, please contact the local bottling company or district office in your country. (If you are unable to contact a company representative in your home country, please send an e-mail to The Coca-Cola Company and we will either relay your request to the bottler or we will get the information for you.)
Q: How do I redeem my winning game piece?
A: Typically, redemption information is on the packaging. You can also call 1-800-GET-COKE (1-800-438-2653), and a representative will be happy to assist you.

EnvironmentQ: How do you support environmental issues?
A: The Coca-Cola Company and our bottlers have been at the forefront of helping solve environmental, litter and solid waste issues for more than 20 years. We realize that we touch the lives of billions of people around the world and that our responsibility to them includes conducting our business in ways that help preserve the environment.
All of our packaging is recyclable. In fact, soft drink packaging is the most recycled commodity in the United States. Our system supports dozens of litter prevention organizations, including the Center for Marine Conservation and Keep America Beautiful. You might be interested to know that The Coca-Cola Company is a founding member of Keep America Beautiful.
What's more, we've been recycling at the headquarters for years -- to the tune of thousands of pounds of waste annually. As a result, we've donated more than $100,000 in proceeds to charities.
