(c) The Waterbearing Fish

NOTES

Not Quite a Queen is a non-profit endeavor; hence, no copyright infringement is meant or implied. It takes place between PRODIGAL SISTER ('Hercules') and THE QUEST ('Xena'). Xenon, Ephiny's son, was visiting cousins; thus, missing his mother (and vice-versa).

Regarding Athena...for my purposes here, the potter knows the goddess as an artisan (Athena) while the Amazons know her as a warrior (Pallas). When Eponin (the narrator) sees the owl on Ephiny's shoulder, after the potter tells of asking Athena for help, she knows he did and the goddess approves.

Tale written during 1998 and 1999. Revised, redesigned, and reformatted between 2000 and 2002.

The first version and the picture which inspired it are at Pink Rabbit Productions. Version two, now lost, was at Whiffle's 'Xena Scrolls Forums' (Bard's Hall section). Version three, with comments, is at a once-private forum but was reposted to VESSELS OF CLAY. Click here to return to *Bard's Scrolls*.

DISCLAIMERS

Gabrielle, Ephiny, Eponin, Solari, Valesca, Tyldus, and Rune (the "blind man") belong to Reniassance Pictures. Artemis, Athena (Pallas), and Hercules belong to Greek mythology. The potter belongs to me.

Ephiny and Eponin's sparring and Solari bringing the potter to the Amazon village are the only violent acts committed.

Eponin and Ephiny's relationship can be viewed either as one between friends, one between lovers, or as a romantic friendship.

Comments, not insults, are appreciated. With many thanks to Mike, PB, Hawk, and xenaswarrior for their thoughts and impressions.
