Some Australian Animals
Here are some of our cute Australian Native animals. Koalas (and kangaroos and possums) are still common in the hills around Adelaide. Emus, Dingos and Wombats tend to live out on the dry inland plains of South Australia. Wombats are commonly called the "bulldozers of the bush" due to their solid build and tendancy to dig large holes! Our snakes are the most poisonous in the world - fortunately we don't see them very often! |
Our Capital Cities
Look carefully at the picture of Adelaide. You can see the Festival Theatre in the front (building with white roof). This is where the Opera is performed as well as many other things such as plays, musicals, orchestras, rock bands, pop singers and famous comedians such as Billy Connolly. |
More Aussie Animals!
Here we have another Koala - very popular animal although not quite as cuddly as they look. They have VERY large claws for hanging onto gumtrees and the males grunt like pigs when disturbed! There is also one of our frillneck lizards, a black swan, a crocodile (very dangerous beastie!) and a funny looking kangaroo. |
Our State Floral Emblem
This is our state flower, the Sturt's Desert Pea. It is usually red with a black centre but the experts are now are now producing white, pale pink and salmon coloured ones! |
