THE ASMODEAN THEORY
Who killed asmodean? the question on everyones lips. well, let me give you my take on it.
ÒHe pulled open a small door intending to find his way to the pantry. There should be some decent wine. One step, and he stopped, the blood draining from his face. ÒYou? No!Ó The word still hung in the air when death took him.Ó
From The Fires Of Heaven, ch 56, Glowing Embers, pg 961
From this paragraph, we have a wealth of information. e know that Asmodean
a. Recognized his killer.
b. Died very quickly
c. Was very scared of whoever he saw
so, lets look at possible ways he could have died here.
in the following books, we see that no one has any clue where Asmodean went, so we know that his body was disposed of. now, how could his body have been disposed of?
Eaten by a gholem? perhaps. thats an interesting thought. But would Asmodean have recognized a Gholem? Maybe he would, maybe not. But other information i will bring in later disproves this theory.
could his body just have been carried off? maybe. but a dead man, especially one seen with the Lord Dragon many times, would be cause for conversation, i would think. besides, how far could you get before someone noticed that the guy hung over your shoulder, or tied to your horse is dead? Not very bloody far, i would think.
Balefired? very probably. in fact, i belive that this is what happened. Let me tell you why.
ÒThere was an instant of surprise on the Forsaken's face and he ahd time to scream ÒNo!Ó Then a bar of white fire, hotter then the sun shot from the Aes Sedai's hands, a glaring rod that banished all shadows. Before it, Be'lal became a shape of shimmering motes, specks dancing in the light for less then a heartbeat, flecks consumed before his cry faded.Ó
From The Dragon Reborn, ch 55, What is Written in Prophecy, pg 651-652
Be'lal was balefired. Lookie at that last line there. Ò...before his cry faded.Ó
Sounds kinda like Asmodean doesnt it? and Balefire would totally erase his body from existence, so there would be no body.
so, we can safely assume that Asmodean was balefired.
Now, for the question of the century: Whodunit?
Well, it seems to me to be obvious that it was a Forsaken. First of all, Asmodean turns to Rand al'Thor, effectively betraying the Dark One, making him a fugitive. Therefore, a Forsaken decides to off him before he can teach Rand any more then he already knows. So, which forsaken was it?
Well, at this point, Rahvin and Bel'al have been Balefired, Aginor and Balthimel are dead (but busily being ressurected as Arangar and Osangar respectively, Ishamael is dead, but being resurected as Moridin. Lanfear is stuck in *-Finn land, leaving us with our usual suspects.
Demandred, Semirhage, Sammael, Graendal, Messaana, and Moghedien.
Moghedien was held captive by Nynaeve at that time, so it isn't her.
Messaana is in the White Tower, so it can be assumed it isn't her.
That leaves Semirhage, Demandred, Sammael and Graendal.
Now, who was in Caemlyn at that time?At first glance, none of them. Until we read in Path of Daggers of Lady Shiaine. Remember the way she killed Jaichim Carridin? By pouring rum down his throat until he choked to death?
Theres an interesting way to die.
Hey, speaking of interesting ways to die, remember the Warder and the Aes Sedai being held by Semirhage? Remember how they died? Overdose on pleasure, if memory serves. So, theres a connection. But in Crown of Swords, we see Jaichim talking to Lady Shiane, and he says her real name is something else (i dont remember what), and Lady Shiane is groveling before him.
Then she kills him one book later? what brought on such a change of attitude? Unless she was faking the whole, scared of Jaichim act.
so, Semirhage was stationed in Caemlyn. Semirhage knows about Balefire. but wait, If she balefired Asodean, wouldn't Aviendha have felt it? as well as Rand?
one would think so. Such a huge amount of Saider would be felt by Aveindha, Rand and Mat (through his medallion). But no one felt anything.
So it must have been Saidin, right? wrong. Cause Rand didn't feel anything.
True Power again. That is the other bit of evidence that outrules the Gholem. So, it was a Forsaken. and I believe it was Semirhage, with the Balefire, in the Pantry.
