my new Movie Review is for Lake Placid, which opened yesterday.
Lake Placid stars Bill Pullman, as the handsome Fish and Game Officer who is in charge of the investigation into the Lake Placid Deaths. (actually, it's the black lake deaths, since Lake PLacid was a name already taken by a lake in Forida).
Oliver Platt is the Eccentric (meaning crazy and rich) guy who swims with Crocs for fun, because he believes they are godly.
Brendan Gleeson is the overweight, and slightly stupid sheriff who is in charge of the law enforcement area of the investigation,
and then there's Bridget Fonda, who plays a paleontologist who has been dumped by her lover (also her boss, played Alan Alda[Dr. Shut on Chicago Hope]) for a co-worker, and is sent to Maine to examine the tooth that was found in the first body, to get her out of the way.
At first, they have no idea what killed the diver, until they actually see the croc grab, and take away a bear all in about 5 seconds.
They they go hunting it, and along the way discover that the old lady who is living on the edge of the lake knew all about it all along. She also knew some other stuff about the lake, that you don't learn until the end.
Anyway, the crew comes up with a plan to trap the Croc, and try to implement it, but it backfires when the eccentric guy loses control of his helicopter and drops a cow in the lake. The croc goes nuts, and pseudo terror ensues.
Eventually, the croc gets caught, but in a way I didnŐt expect.
Then, comes one of the other secrets of the lake, but that is handily disposed of by the Fat Stupid Sheriff with his BFG 9000. (that's what i call it. The sheriff just called it the "big gun.")
All in all, i give it 2 1/2 Field Mice. It was okay, but it was never really explained how the Asian Crocodile, got to a rural Maine lake.
Anyway, there was no sex in this movie, though plenty of sexual references, offers, innuendo, and the like.
There was a fair amount of cursing.
maybe 25 uses of F--K
about the same amount of S--T
As a morality rating, i give it 1 1/2 Field Mice.
and, as Always, Ebert can have the balcony, those other two can have the aisle seat, I wat the exact middle!
