Stigmata

A priest dies, and his rosary is stolen by some little mexican kid who then gives it to a tourist. The tourist sends it to her daughter, who is then inflicted with the stigmata, spontaneous bleeding from the wrists, the feet, the head, and the side. Stigmata are only inflicted on very very righteous people, as a mark of their righteousness. Th estigmata, of course, equate to the wounds the Jesus Christ received on the Cross.

So this girl is inflicted with them, even though she is nto a very righteous person. Why, they ask? Well, because of the priest's rosary. The priest was very righteous, and so his Stigmata got passed onto her.

Somewhere along the line, there's a plot about a fifth gospel, this one written by the disciple Thomas, and how the catholic church doesn't want it discovered.

That plot though, was kinda weak, and this movie was more an exercise in "Let's see how realistically we can make blood spurt out of a human body" then an exercise in "let's get a good solid plot."

I thought this movie was kinda dumb, and as such, I give it 1 Field Mouse.

And, as always, Ebert can have the Balcony, the Sneak Previews guys can have the Aisle seats. I want the exact middle!
