There is a comment in a reminiscence penned by his younger half sister Mattie Harris Lyon that her "Bro Sam was killed by a stray round the day after the surrender", In view of the apparent minor nature of his wounds this may well be an accurate description of how he died, Records indicate that he was buried in the small Confederate Cemetery there, Born in 1838 in Abbeville, SC to Ezekiel Calhoun and Rebecca Harris Young Harris
