The Lowendenkmal
One of the most impressive sights in Lucerne is the Lowendenkmal (Lion Monument). The lion is a sandstone statue which weeps for the Swiss Guards slain in the 1792 Paris storming of the Tuileries.Mark Twain said that it is "the saddest and most compassionate piece of rock on earth."
