This episode features the reparation of the breach between Xena and
Gabrielle. After Xena tried to kill Gabrielle, both tumbled into a
lake at the bottom of a waterfall, and both are transported to the
musical land of Illusia, where they're inner wounds are healed.
Xena is pulled out of the water by a strangely dressed Callisto, and we
get an introduction to the land of Illusia. Gabrielle is similarly
pulled out by someone she can barely tolerate (Joxer) and is just a
little embarrased to find that she's naked. She also gets a little
introduction. Both are then taken back into their past, Xena to her
army of men, and Gabrielle back to Poteideia. Xena's consuming hatred
takes over her and in her anger, she kills Gabrielle, when they meet at
a door. Ares consoles her (I know he's not really good at consoling,
but it's a different kind of consoling we're talking about here). The
real Gabrielle appears, and they keep blaming each other about the
past. Dahok, or a fire demon snatches them away, back to the site
where all their trouble started: Dahok's Temple. A lesson about hate
was sung, and after that, they forgive each other, as deep down in
their hearts, thay still loved. The Illusian doorway opens, and
reveals Solan, the person respons
ible for the chance they got to renew their love for each other.
Gabrielle got through the rain of acid having been "cleansed". Xena
however, had to reveal that she killed ing T'ien. She sang a song,
pleading with them both (Gabrielle and Solan) to forgive her. The
episode ends with Xena and Gabrielle embracing each other, and truly
they were friends (shall I say lovers) again.
An enjoyable episode. Joseph LoDuca's songs are MAGNIFICENT!! You
can't get much better then what we got in this episode. Lucy's singing
was beautiful, and for once, if I hadn't known the voices were dubbed,
I wouldn't have known that they had exchanged voices. I totally
enjoyed it. No wonder it was nominated for two Emmy awards.
