Her lips like satin smoothed my own, Her breath as sweet as spring
Her smile made my dark dreary day , New and bright a clean
And I was only wantonly glad, To taste and be so kissed
To know some soul would love me too, And offer me this
could i but feel her warm soft hand , and taste her sweet red lips
could i but know within my soul , that she and i were meant
and soft her smile would melt my frost, and dear her song my soul
and i forever more to be held dearly in her gold
but the war screams loudest in the morn, and death its tyrant lord
and i but one more warrior there, standing now to die abroad
and take now this soft last sigh, and know that i was true
and died a goodly soldier there , remembering her soft lips as blue
