Eliza Ann Gooch was born Feb 1821 and died 23 Dec 1917. She married James Overton (O.L.) Sutton 29 Jul 1847 probably Lumpkin County,Ga. Eliza & James are buried at Wahoo Baptist Church in Lumpkin County,Ga.
Eliza's parent's were Tillman D. Gooch born ca 1800 in S.C.-died after 15 Apr 1850 probably in Calif. Tillman Married Elizabeth Justice in 1819. Tillman was on Rabun Co.Ga. census in 1830. In 1834 he sold a gold lot in Lumpkin Co.Ga. He was a Capt. in the Ga. Militia in 1837. In 1838-1839 he participated in the forced march of the Cherokee's to Okla. This was known as the trail of tear's. He never returned and was found on the 1840 census in Ms. In 1850 he was found on the census in Sudder's Co.Ca. in a gold camp and with a new wife.
Tillman's parent's were James Gooch born in 1755 in Hanover County, Va.-died1826 in Allen County, Ky. James married Elizabeth Kelly on 3 Aug 1785 in Caswell County N.C.(Elizabeth Kelly's parents were Samuel Kelly & Maryann ?).
James' parent's were William W. Gooch Sr. born Ca 1730-died 22 Dec 1802 in Caswell County, N.C.(To see his will go to: http://www3.mwis.net/~powder/gooch_will_ 1803.htm ) William married Keziah Hart in 1750 in Hanover Co.Va. Keziah was born ca 1730. (Keziah's parent's were Thomas Hart & Susannah Rice)(Apparently William and Keziah had 5 children and later William remarried and had 7 more children)(William served in the Rev war from N.C. 1777-1779, DAR no's 486626 & 533212. Service: Nov 11, 1777,3 years Pvt. Taylor's Company, 6th Reg. roll of Lt. Col. Meban's Company Pt. Sep 1777-Feb 1779. Mustered Nov 1779, N.C. colonial record's Vol 15, page 725, Vol 16,page 1062,Vol 17,page 213,318)
