LAB POLICIES:

1. Students are required to bring lab manuals to each laboratory session.
2. Attendance in lab is MANDATORY!!! An unexcused absence could result in an automatic withdrawal from the course. An absence will be excused by your lab instructor if the student presents a written statement to the instructor substantiating that the student was absent due to:
  • a. official college business
  • b. illness
  • c. death in the student’s immediate family
  • d. observance of recognized religious holidays
    3. Make-up exams will be given only in extreme emergencies (which must be documented) with advance notice. Students will be expected to take their make-up exam with another lab section. Make-up exams will therefore depend on the availability of space in other lab sections.
    4. Students should attend labs for which they enrolled. Students will NOT be permitted to attend alternate labs except in extreme emergencies and with documentation from student’s regular lab instructor and permission from the alternate instructor.
    5. Please turn off beepers, pagers, and cell phones during lab. Electronic devices with photographic capabilities may not be used without permission of the instructor. You can be reached for emergencies via the biology department secretary at 927-5314.
    6. Those labs to be submitted for grading are marked with an asterisk.
    7. FOOD AND DRINK ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE LABORATORY!
    8. Answers to questions in lab exercises should be written in each student's own words. Students may work in groups to perform certain lab exercises but each student's written answer should be their own work. COPYING of answers is a violation of the AASU Honor Code and is considered cheating. Violations of this policy may result in a "0" for the assignment and referral to the Student Honor Court.
9.STUDENTS MUST PASS THE LECTURE AND THE LABORATORY IN ORDER TO PASS THE COURSE! ( A total of 120 points is needed to pass the lab)
    10. Labs in the science building are equipped with a number of safety features, which will be demonstrated to you. One feature, the safety shower, is to be used only in emergency situations. DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR PULL THE HANDLE ON THE SAFETY SHOWER, UNLESS AN EMERGENCY EXISTS. Failure to comply with this caution will result in immediate withdrawal of the student from the course (at any time during the semester.
