1. Quicksand

Scott Anderson: I wrote this one day when I was so depressed and I couldn’t figure out why. I wanted answers real quickly why I was so down. It’s so funny because I think that one of the only times I’m truly happy is when I write something that actually works out and becomes part of a song.

James Black: The guitar riff had been around for a while, and I ended up re-arranging it to fit the mood of the song. To begin with, it was spontaneous, but the song went through many changes. It’s one of the more complicated songs on the album, and working those parts in together and making it sound cool was pretty difficult.
