General Robert Charles Tyler
Great,Great Grandfather of William Kenneth Tyler

He served with the 15th/37th Tennessee Infantry, Army of Tennessee.
He started the as a Private and within a few months he was appointed Colonel.
He was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh and at Missionary Ridge, he lost his left leg.
At that time he was appointed Brigader General and went to West Point, Georgia, where he was killed seven days after the war ended on April 16, 1865 at 12:00 noon.
He was the last General to die in the War Between the States. the town of West Point, Georgia holds a living history program every April for Fort Tyler, which was named after him.
He was the least known General on either side.

William G. Elrod
Great,Great Grandfather of Joseph M. Elrod

He served with Company I of the 23rd Georgia Infantry.
He died in Yorktown, Virginia in 1862.


Private Churchill Blakey
Ancestor of Troy L. Rupple Sr. and Family

He served with Company G of the 30th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of the Tennessee.
Under the command of General Braxton Bragg.
He served from the beginning of the war through the Battle of Atlanta, where he became ill and was sent to a hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
He remained hospitalized until the war was over.
He is from Wilkes County, Georgia


2nd Corporal John Lewis Dunn
Great Uncle of Marilyn Dunn Carothers

1842 - 1863
He served with Company A of the 9th Kentucky Regiment Infantry Brigade.
He was a Medal Of Honor/Honor Roll recipient.
He fought during the Battles of Shiloh, Hartsville, Mufreesboro, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Vicksburg, Peachtree Creek, Jonesboro and Chickamauga.
He was killed during the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.
He was from a prominent family in Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky.
His father was Gray B. Dunn, Baptist Minister and 1st Postmaster of Homer, Kentucky.


1st. Corporal Eli Edward Dunn
Great Uncle of Marilyn Dunn Carothers

1837 - 1864
He served with Company A of the 9th Kentucky Regiment Infantry Brigade.
He was John Lewis Dunn's brother and his father was Gray B. Dunn.
He was killed during the Battle of Jonesboro.
He fought in the Battles of Shiloh, Hartsville, Mufreesboro, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Vicksburg, Peachtree Creek, Jonesboro and Chickamauga.


Private William Murphy
Great, Great, Grandfather of Eileen Murphy Shannon

He served with Company F of the 7th Mississippi Infantry from Marion County, Mississippi.
He died of wounds sustained at the Battle of Shiloh on July 19, 1862.
His burial place is unknown to this day.

He served with Company F of the 63rd Alabama Infantry


Marquis DeLafayette Keener
Great, Great Granfather of Priscilla Keener Squires

He served with Company E of the 33rd Alabama Infantry
He died of disease--as qouted in a newspaper article--"in the back of an open wagon in the driving rain"
He is buried in Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
He never got to see his son, Ms. Squires' Great Grandfather.


Charles B. Jacobs
Great, Great Granfather of Linda Jacobs Sewell and Ronald Keith Jacobs of Mobile and Georgetown, Alabama.

Born: November 5, 1830 in Florida.
Died: August 10, 1903 in Mississippi.
He served with Company C of the 38th Alabama Infantry, Captain Lenoir's Company.
He enlisted on April 2, 1862, at Choctaw, Alabama by C. T. Ketchum (1).
Mustered near Fort Stoddard, Ala., May 27, 1862.
He received $11 per month in pay.
POW, captured at Shelbyville, Tennessee on June 28, 1863; received at Military Prison, Louisville, Kentucky on July 19, 1863; forwarded to Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio, entered on July 27, 1863.
He was transferred February 19, 1864, to Fort Delaware, Delaware, received at Fort Delaware on Mar. 4, 1864; signed the Oath of Allegiance to U.S.A. at Fort Delaware on May 7, 1865, and then released.
Only 80 of his 800+ Regiment survived the Invasion.
Residence -?Choctaw Co., Alabama.
Eyes-grey, hair-dark, complexion-dark, 5'9".


Lorenzo M. McKeithen
Great, Great Grandfather of Cynthia Conner - Haggerton

He served with Company C of the 1st Battalion Heavy Artillery, North Carolina
He resided in Town Creek, Brunswick County, North Carolina
Born about 1843 and Died before 1920

He served with Company E of Triggs Brigade of the 54th Regiment Virginia.
Born October 1834 in Montgomery County, Virginia
Died December 15, 1863 in Dalton, Ga. He is buried in West Hill Cemetery

He served with Company B of the 12th Alabama Cavalry
He was enlisted on July 26, 1862 by Capt. A. J. Ingram at Chepultepec, Alabama
He was from Blount County, Alabama and left his widow, Malissa Huffstutler Reid, and two young sons, Henry Camilious Reid and James Calloway Reid
Private Reid is the son of James and Mary Polly Reid

John M. Chalker
Great Great Grandfather of Clint Hale, missionary in Estonia (Eastern Europe)

He served with Company A of the 48th Infantry Regiment, Georgia
He was wounded at Sharpsburg and Gettysburg
In the 1880s he moved his family to Stephens County, Texas
He died in 1912, buried in Plum Branch Cemetary, Eolian, Texas
