News of the EarthBound Gang

¤ˇI am reformatting this newsletter once againˇ¤
Well.. I have decided that I am going to reformat this newsletter even further. This effect will not be as much on Part 1 as Part 2 and 3. The trivia.. Well, You will see what happened with the trivia. The Trivia is scattered throughout the newsletters into there seperate catagories. SO... If you wanna do the TV Trivia. Check out the TV News. If you wanna do the pokemon trivia. Go to the pokemon section of the newsletter!! I do this so peoples articles get read more. So you take more time on the trivia and so forth. Besides, I try to give you the latest and greatest in news and programming. So. Enjoy the new format. (This also prevents people from opening Part 2 of the NL... Doing the trivia... and thats it.)

¤ˇThe EarthBound Gang merges with the RPG Nationˇ¤
The Earthbound Gang has merged with an older club known as the RPG Nation. This club has been inactive for some time, but now is with the EarthBound Gang. The club origionally had about 1000 members, but we only gained 260 or so because most of their club members are already in ours. Please be aware that no changes will be made to our club, but my response time to emails and so forth may be slower for the week due to the conversion.

Issue 100 comes out in 1 week! This will be the best newsletter that we have ever writtten. Me, along with BearBear13, and Onettness will make this big event a great one!! Please keep in mind that this will be a 7 part newsletter. And I hope that you read most if not all of it. We will go through the history of the EarthBound Gang, have 20 trivia questions and so forth. This should be something to remember!!

¤ˇThis is the last 3 days to turn in your StarCraft Tournament Applicationˇ¤
If you read last weeks newsletter. You know that this is the last week to turn in your StarCraft tournament application. This is because I need a lot of time to get a time table and references done!! So. Please get it in to me. If you do not get it into me in the next 3 days, you will not be able to participate in this 2 month ladder!!

Weekly Club Information

Meeting Information:
Days: Every Wednesday and Saturday
Times: 7:00 PM until ??? (Whenever you leave)
Location: Giant Step
Location 2: Lumine Hall

Only go to Location 2 if Location 1 is full. We will have a meeting host in there on Wednesdays. Remember that meetings are a good way to get tokens and promotions as I give out as many as 40 of each a meeting! We have a lot of fun, and you get to see what is up with the club that isn't mentioned in the NL and so forth.

The EarthBound Gang Message board is a good way to communicate to other members. I will soon be making club announcements their daily which will help you keep informed in what is going on with the club. Make sure that you visit there. Besides.. most of the good club members go there!

Web Page Information:
Completion time: 2 weeks.
The webpage is currently under construction. It will be a marvelous tool once the page is done. The construction is being done by your AAVP Jon Ls God. If you have an ad that you would like to be submitted, a story, a fanart, a link, or anything else that you would like on the webpage. Please send it to Seprith. <- One of my other SN's.

Newsletter Information
Release Time: Late Monday Night.
The newsletter comes out Every Monday at about 11:00 PM. This is to give me some breathing and break time for the night. The times of the NL can be anywhere from 7:00 PM to about 1:00 AM Tuesday though, depending on how everything works out.


Member of the week:

This weeks member of the week is Typhoon742
Typhoon742 is not an AOL member, and I believe that he is one of the first if not the first internet member to get member of the week. He has taken the time to database every enemy in Earthbound for me. It has the stats of every EarthBound enemy in Database form. He is also active in the club, and participates greatly. He offers many good ideas that will benifit us all. GOOD JOB TYPHOON!

Ranks of the EarthBound Gang:

As you all know, if you go to the meetings, it is easy to get promotions and stuff. But, I am going to make them a little more difficult to get. This is because people work really hard to get where they are!! Trust me. Ranks are worth it. If I got a King Ranked person and a Tessie Ranked person in an argument over something in the NL.. I pick the Tessie person. If I have to make a choice between two people, and one has a higher rank, I choose the higer ranked person. Keep that in mind! It goes a long way. Besides, if you come to the meetings, you will hear the question... "I'm a Dr. Andonuts.. What are you?" Hopefully you someday will be able to give a good response.

OA Frank Fly

OAFrankFly has been a great member to the EarthBound Gang. If I am not mistaken, he has been in this club longer than my 1 1/2 years. He has helped with many projects such as Jeopardy and beating us all in trivia. He has gotten us many member's in Onettness' time, and has been Member of the Week (((6))) times! His work shall always be remembered as he is the first Apple of Enlightenment.

EarthBound/Mother 2/Super Nintendo

Information on the Game
For now on, every week, I will be giving you information on the EarthBound! I see that we still have a lot of people playing it and well, its time to focus on Earthbound Damnit. Anyway, For those of you that have beat it a zillion times already. Read some of this stuff. Some of it you may not even know.

Part 1 of 8 of the EarthBound Walkthru
Every week, I will give some information on getting through and beating EarthBound. It will be divided into 8 parts so be sure to stick with each one. EarthBound though is easy to follow thru. So don't worry if you stray away.

Onett

1. Leave Nesss house and go talk to Pokey at the meteorite. He will
say to go home so go home and talk to your mom.
2. Pokey will knock on the door and ask you to look for Pickey with
him. Talk to your mom, get the cracked bat and equip it. Talk to the
dog and hell come with you. Go to the door, then the phone will ring.
Answer it, he says to call him on your adventure to save your game.
Finally you can leave.
3. Head for the meteorite. You will meet one of the first enemies in
the game. You will notice that the dog is a better fighter than Pokey.
Pokey is just a wimp. He usually hides or begs for forgiveness.
4. At the meteorite talk to Pickey, and hell say some garbage. Walk by
the meteorite and Buzz Buzz will join you after he talks.
5. Head for Pokeys house. On the way Starman Jr. will attack you. This
is a freebie because you cant die. After he is beaten go to Pokeys
house and the parents will be home. Pokey and Pickey will get
punished. Then the mom will kill Buzz Buzz. Just before he dies you
get the sound stone.
6. Now is the beginning of Onett. You have to beat Frank. Before you do
you do you should stop by the hide out and get the Baseball cap. Its
defense will make it easier.
Mini Boss Fight- Frank. Just keep your HP up. For more info check out
Boss Guide.
7. After Frank Fly is reformed get the key to the shack from the mayor
and go beat Titanic Ant.
Boss Fight-Titanic Ant. This is the first sanctuary boss. Its easy at
level nine. After he is beaten collect the melody.
8. Leave. A Cop will meet you. Do what he says, go to the police
station. You will have to fight 4 cops then Captain Strong
Mini-Boss fight-Cops. You fight 4 of 5 then Captain Strong.
9. Leave Onett.

Twoson
1. Welcome to Twoson they got their name because they werent first.
2. Go to the Apple Kids house and give him $200.00 (its worth it).
Dont pay the Orange Kid, he is just a rip off.
3. After you get the receiver phone go to the iron pencil in Peace
Valley (to the west of Twoson by Polestar Preschool). Check the pencil
and go back to Burglin Park and meet Apple Kid. He will give you the
pencil eraser.
4. Go back to the iron pencil and use the pencil eraser on it. You can
go now and head to Happy Happy Village.
5. Go meet Paula in a house through the cave up north. Get the Franklin
Badge and go out you will face some insane cultists and one crow.
6. Go to the church and make your way through the maze. There is a tip
here. All the people moving their legs will talk. You will have to
fight once if you go the correct way first. Then face Carpainter.
BOSS FIGHT-Carpainter. You have to have the badge to fight him or the
lightning will put you in the barn with a couple of guys.
7. Get the key, save Paula and go fight the Mondo Mole.
BOSS FIGHT-Mondo Mole-You need a high level like 20 for Ness. It is a
lot easier.
8. Head home with Paula. Take her to the Polestar Preschool. When you
leave go talk to Everdred in Burglin Park. You could have fought him
earlier if wanted. He will give you 10,000 dollars. Use it free the
Runaway Five. Then you will be able to ride their bus to Threed.

Threed
1. After the Runaway Five drops you off, head for the graveyard in the
northwest corner of Threed. At the northern most point, talk to the
zombies then head for the hotel. You will see a girl. Follow her and
you will get knocked out by a bunch of zombies. Wake up in some cave
room and walk to the door. It will be locked.

EarthBound Enemy Focus: The Sanctuary Location Bosses
Titanic Ant: 235 HP, 102 PP, can cast Shield of Light Alpha
This ant is tough to stomp. Make PSI Special Alpha your first
attack to dispatch of his toadies. After that, the Ant will
occasionally suck your PP, so use most of it in the
beginning. It's a good idea to use Hypnosis Alpha to save
yourself from attack a few turns. Use mainly Bash attacks,
and save PP for healing and hypnotizing the huge Ant.

Mondo Mole: 498 HP, 161 PP, can cast Psychic Shield Alpha
This guy is very powerful and can deal mortal damage to Paula
easily. Use Paralysis Alpha on him immediately! Then, he can
only use Offence Up ŕ and PSI Shield ŕ. Use psychic attacks
unless he has his shield up. After that, repeatedly Bash him
for an easy victory.

Trillionage Sprout: 1,048 HP, 240 PP, can cast Psychic Shield Alpha
Be sure no one in your party is Mushroomized when you go up
against the Sprout. Hi him immediately with your most
powerful PSI Fire and PSI Special attacks to get rid of his
helpers. Use PSI Fire and regular attacks throughout the
battle. A Bomb or Bottle Rocket will also help. Don't spare
any PP getting rid of this guy, unless he has his shield up.

Schroom!: 1,700 HP, 112 PP, no shields
This vile vegetable's most dangerous attack is the incurable
Mushroomization. If one of your characters is hit with this,
don't use any strong attacks with that person. A fast and
furious volley of PSI Special, PSI Fire, and a Big Bottle
Rocket will make this fungus among us wilt.

Plague Rat of Doom: 1,827 HP, 60 PP, no shields
Almost every one of the rat's attacks is a SMAAASH attack.
Use Shield Sigma to protect your party quickly. The rodent hates
getting burnt by PSI Fire! PSI Special and some Big Bottle
Rockets work well too. A shot of Defence Down Alpha will also
help the weaker Poo help Bash. Heal injured members quickly!

Thunder & Storm: 2,065 HP, 70 PP, no shields
Don't forget to wear the ever-useful Franklin Badge when
fighting these Lightning Elementals! The duo likes to zap
you with lots of lightning bolts. PSI Freeze will but these
guardians on ice for good. Be ready to heal soon when they
take deep breaths for their next assault -- that attack is
brutal!

Electro Specter: 3,092 HP, 80 PP, starts with Psychic Shield Beta
This guardian's shield is no problem. He often uses a
Neutralizer, which will wreck his shield as well as yours.
Once he does, try using a strong PSI Freeze on him. Using a
Multi-Bottle Rocket will also help wear him down. If he
doesn't drop the shields after a while, go ahead and use the
Shield Killer.

Carbon Dog: 1,672 HP, 0 PP, no shields
This hot dog can't stand a good PSI Freeze Omega or two. Focus
on beating him quickly. It's a good idea to launch a Multi-
Bottle Rocket to end the battle against him. But wait!
There's more!

Diamond Dog: 3,344 HP, 154 PP, starts with & can cast Shield of Light Beta
It makes sense; diamonds are made of almost pure carbon.
Enough with the science lesson, though. Don't bother with
Shield Killer because he'll make a new shield soon. Although
no psychic power works especially well on him, try a good
blast of PSI Special, PSI Freeze, and PSI Starstorm. It will
also help to cast Shield Sigma to protect you from his fierce
attacks. It takes time to beat him -- he's tougher than
diamonds.


EarthBound Focus

Dr. Andonuts

I never heard of him. Who is he?
He is Jeff's dad. He makes cool inventions that Jeff uses sometimes. He is very smart. He doesn't have a wife, he just lives in his Lab.

Thats pretty cool. Where can I find him?

EarthBound 0/ Mother/ Nintendo
EarthBound 0 is an original RPG that takes place in rural America in the late 1980's and early 1990's. One might say, "Original? How can an RPG be original! Don't all RPG's involve knights and stuff?". This is not the case in EarthBound 0. For one, medieval style weapons have been replaced by such oddities as yoyo's and frying pans. The classic dragons, dark elves, and other demons have been replaced with machines, crazed hippies, and many other different beings. The story is a classic, however. Strange occurences begin to happen, a boy sets out to investigate these and his own mysterious past and psychic abilities. He is joined by several friends who aid him in his slowly-appearing final goal, which is to defeat the vengeful, conqueristic alien known as Giegue.

EarthBound 0 Cheat/Glitch of the week
Help Avoid Attacks
Every time you leave a battle, a certain amount of steps is chosen by
the computer. After you walk so many steps, you'll be attacked again.
However, if you open up your menu window, the number of steps is
re-determined. This is great for emulator users, as you can just
save your state, take a couple of steps, and if you get attacked, reload
your state, open your menu, and try again to see if you can go further
without getting attacked. Although useful, remember that if you don't
fight monsters, you won't earn money or be able to level-up.

Another way to avoid attacks is to use teleport then purposely run into
something so you don't teleport somewhere else. This is really helpful
on Mt. Itoi, which is covered with monsters.

EarthBound 0 Walkthru Part 1 of 8
For those of you that are not good at EarthBound 0. We will be starting a walkthru of the game today! Make sure that you follow the instructions carefully, but do have a little fun!


- Once the game begins, attack the lamp when it comes after you.

- Then go into your sister's room and attack the doll. Examine it
afterwards to hear one of the eight songs you'll need to memorize
later.

- Talk to your mother, then to your father. Go outside and check your
dog to get the Basement Key. Get the items from the basement.

- Now spend some time building up levels, preferrably until you reach
Level 3. Go to Podunk and buy the Canary Chick from the department
store. Also, look for the man giving a survey--you can get a Phone
Card from him.

- Head northwest to the Canary Village. There's a hole in the wall
behind the gray statue, so go behind it and use the chick on the
talking canary, Laura. She'll sing another melody to you. Now
return to town and and talk to the Mayor. Agree to help him.

- Make your way to the south of town, and watch out for people who are
really Pseudo Zombies. At the graveyard, look for an open crypt (it's
east of the church). In the adjoining room at the bottom, open the
coffin on the far left to find Pippi.

- Return with Pippi to the town. If she faints, you'll have to revive
her in the hospital. Then go talk to the Mayor, get the Zoo Key from
Abbot, and head back to your house.

- Along the way, pick up the Franklin Badge from Pippi. Save your game
and return to town. Look for the path that leads north to the Zoo.

- After the Singing Monkey steals your key at the Zoo gates, go inside.
Head east until you reach the Superindent's building. Go inside and
get all the goods.

- On the top floor, enter the right-hand door first and get the Life Up
Cream. Then go into the left door and examine the capsule.

- Starman Jr. will appear. This battle is easier than it looks, esp. if
you have the Franklin Badge, which reflects Gamma Beams.

- Once Starman leaves, you may want to go and heal up back in the town.
Don't forget to get another song from the Singing Monkey at the Zoo,
though. Return to the upper bridge where the guards are (northeast
of the Zoo), and they'll let you past.

- In the cave, examine the stone and then use 'Telepathy'. You'll be
warped to the land of dreams, Magicant.

- One man here will give you an Ocarina, and another one will give you
a Big Bag (full of Magic Herbs) if you let him borrow your Cash Card
for a while.

- You can withdraw (but not deposit) money by going to Mary's Fountain
and using Telepathy, if you need some extra dough.

- Leave the town and head northeast. To answer the man who tells
riddles, use 'Telepathy' after he finishes talking. In Mary's
castle, talk to everyone. One room has six chests--open one and the
rest close. I suggest getting the Boomerang.

Hello Earthbound Gang. This is the first of several articles on a major news breakthrough: Earthbound 64 is alive!!! After three years of waitning and delays, we finally can lift our hopes at the possibility of the games coming. Let me explain.
Two days ago (if you are reding this on Monday), IGN64, a major gaming news network, received a list of the games to be included at the Spaceworld Expo in Toyko, Japan. While not nearly as big as the E3 expo, this still is a major expo. One of the games listed on the list was none other that Mother 3! As I said above, I plan on doing research on the Spaceworld Expo and most importantly, Mother 3's coverage there. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more info on the arrival of our beloved game.

News:

WCW:
-Apparently, there have been some very heated words between Eric Bischoff and Scott Hall. Bischoff is upset that Scott attanded a recent ECW house show and that he wants to take even more time off. Eric is becoming impatient and may release Hall in the next few days. Take that for what it's worth.

-There are now weak rumors WCW is highly interested in Rob Van Dam. Most ECW stars are just on agreements, rather than signed contracts.

-Randy Savage's WCW contract expires at the end of the year, but the WWF probably wouldn't be interested in him, but WCW is expected to give him a 50 to 75 percent raise.

-Don't expect Sting to hold on to Presidency of WCW too long, as he is scheduled to give it to Eric Bischoff, with the reason being that Sting is too busy with wrestling. Bischoff would then turn heel once again, reforming the NWO. More NWO videos are being shown on WCW television and WCW.COM has been instructed to update nwowrestling.com more. The new Presidential angle has sparked some heat between Flair and the bookers of WCW, since Flair was happy with the position. Flair and Arn Anderson did not approve the storyline where Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, and Shane Douglas would become the new Four Horsemen. Anderson has been pulled off television since he did not get medical clearance to wrestle. WCW may have David Flair take on Douglas in an upcoming match, which many feel is punishment for Ric Flair not approving the new Four Horsemen storyline.

WWF:

-When Kevin Nash's contract with WCW runs up he should go with Hall to WWF and HBK will also join them and HHH too. Hall and Nash will take the tag titles, HHH will be world champ but what about HBK? They will bring back the Kliq if this happens.

-Chris Gericho, will not be the Millenium Man, but indeed is the Millinium Countdown. On RAW, JR even said that the Millenium Countdown to August. Anyone annoyed by that sound it makes? heh.

-Smackdown is coming soon!! Expect it about the mid to late August. I have tickets.

Pokemon Walkthru: Part 1 of 6

Pallet Town
You start out in Pallet Town, There you will get your first Pokémon from
Prof. Oak. You get him to bring you to his laboratory, you must first go
North into the tall grass, you will hear someone say, "Don't go in there!"
It's Prof. Oak, He'll take you to his lab and you'll have the choice of
three Pokémon, Charmander the fire Pokémon, Squirtle the water pokémon,
or Bulbasaur the grass Pokémon. If you pick any one of these Pokémon, Gary
will pick the Elementally superior. Water beats Fire, Grass beat Water,
Fire beats Grass. Beginners should pick Bulbasaur, he seems to win
the most battles and beat the most trainers, Medimum style trainers should
pick Squirtle, and Experienced trainers should pick Charmander. Gary will
challenge you right after that, hes not too hard to beat, just keep attacking
and he'll go down (Your Pokémon will grow a level).After that you will have
to go North to Viridian City.

Road To Viridian City
Along the road the first guy you see will give you a potion. Also you cannot
catch Pokémon right now so just defeat the Pidgeys and Rattatas for exp.
points.

Viridian City
Once you reach Viridian City you should go to the Pokécenter and heal your
Pokémon. Go to the Mart and the clerk will hand a parcel to you to deliver
to Prof. Oak, You can jump over the little barriers, you will save time and
also you'll encounter less battles. Upon delivery, Prof. Oak will hand you
the PokéDex Gary will note to get a map from his sister (you can too).You
won't have to battle Gary this time so get the map and head back to Viridian.
There you should buy Pokéballs, Potions are not needed really because you are
close to a pokécenter. In the area, Pidgeys and Rattatas are the only Pokemon
found.(For exp. points, you can head West and battle Gary, but your Pokemon
should be level 12 or above).Now Head North to Viridian Forest.

Viridian Forest
You cannot pick up the items to the right just yet, but you will go back
later in the game. In the forest there are 3 trainers, they use bugs so if
you chose Charmander this should be REALLY easy, if you picked Squirtle or
Bulbasaur then it will still be easy but not as easy as Charmander. Go West

Antidote. Go along the road and you'll find a split towards the end, go
South and you'll find another item. A certain Pokemon you should look for is
Pikachu, Although Pikachu is here, he is weak and doesn't have many moves.
But he is effective against Misty. Once out of the forest, You'll have to
go to Pewter City.

Pewter City
In Pewter city you must fight Brock. If you don't you cannot proceed to
Mt. Moon. Brock's Pokémon are Geodude level 12, and Onix level. 14. Brock's
Pokémon are easily beaten by Squirtle or Bulbasaur, Charmander's just out of
luck and will have to make it with what he has (Evolving a Kakuna and/or a
Metapod is a good choice if you're using Charmander).The BOULDER BADGE
increases you Pokémon's power a bit, also flash can now be used(Badge moves
such as FLASH, CUT, FLY, STRENGTH, and SURF can only be used when a HM is
equipped to a pokémon.)Get some supplies and head to Mt. Moon. You'll want to
get some potions, an Escape Rope or two, and some more Pokéballs if you need
them.
