'Til Death Do Us Part- Part 7
AJ came over and looked at us. He'd shed his suit jacket and tie and had rolled his sleeves up.
"Damn it, Nick, look what ya done did. You made her sad."
I laughed and Nick gave AJ a look.
"I didn't make her sad. She's tired. It's almost 10:00."
"She's tired? It's only 10:00? Please, the party hasn't even begun!"
I groaned. "AJ."
"Don't 'AJ' me. Get up," he said, grabbing my hands and pulling me to my feet.
"AJ!" I whined. "I don't wanna dance, I don't wanna move."
"Don't give me that. I know you, you and Kev'll be movin' and shakin' all night." He raised an eyebrow at me and I smacked him, hard. He grinned.
"AJ, don't make me dance, let me go."
"Fine, I'll let you go. But quit lazing around with Nick, he's a bad influence."
I laughed and he walked off. Then I sighed, tempted to sit back down.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around.
"Hi, Denise."
"Hey, Mary," she said, hugging me. "You look beautiful."
"Thanks." I smiled.
"I wanted to ask you, when are you guys leaving tomorrow?"
"Around ten. We'll give you Christina just before we leave. Are you sure you can handle her for a week? Not that I'm implying anything."
She smiled. "Please, I mothered him for 18 years," she said, pointing at AJ, "and I've been his warden for the last eleven. Your daughter should be no problem."
I laughed and glanced over at AJ.
"Are you two talking about me again?" he asked, walking up to us.
"Don't we always? You're good conversation topic," I said, grinning at him.
"You talk about me too much."
"Unh ungh. You're fun to talk about."
"What are you talking about this time?"
"How bad a kid you were."
"Gee, I feel loved."
"You should."
"What brought that topic up?"
"Christina."
"Good Lord, that girl is ten times better than I was at nine months."
"I can vouch for that," Denise said, smiling up at her son.
"You're not supposed to agree with me," AJ said, giving her a look.
"It's all in how you bring 'em up," I said, smiling slyly.
"Hey, you're supposed to be on my side!" Denise exclaimed, laughing.
"I am, don't worry, I am."
"Oh, God, they've created an alliance of mothers. And mothers think they know everything."
"That's 'cause we do."
"I know, that's what's bad about it." He frowned. "I couldn't win with you before, and I can't win with you now."
"Don't ever think you can." I smiled at him and he rolled his eyes.
"I'm overruled, I'm leaving," he muttered, turning and walking away.
"Are you pulling that 'mothers know everything' thing on AJ again?" Kevin asked, walking up to us. I grinned up at him.
"Is there a problem with that?"
He shook his head. "No, I actually have to agree with you."
"It's about damn time. You should always agree with me," I said, poking him in the center of his chest. He grabbed my hand and kissed my fingers.
"Let's not get too caught up in this dominant woman thing. Try to space it out over the marriage."
I smiled. "Okay."
"You two are so cute," Denise said, laughing.
I laughed slightly, realizing I'd forgotten she was there.
"I'm gonna go, you two, it's getting late. I had a great time, congratulations and good luck to you both, and keep an eye on AJ."
I grinned. "Okay, see you tomorrow."
I gave her a hug, then Kevin did, and she left.
I leaned on Kev and he put his arm around me, kissing the top of my head.
"I saw you talkin' to Nick." He laughed. "I also saw AJ drag you out here."
"He's mean. Makes me move when I'm tired." I stifled a yawn. "I hate to sound mean, especially about guests at my own wedding, but I wish they would all just leave. Clear out," I said, motioning with my hand as if to move everyone out. Kevin laughed.
"You're not mean, you're tired. Hey, Aunt Jackie!" he continued as Brian's parents walked up to us.
"We're gonna go, we wanna try and leave early tomorrow," Jackie said, hugging us both.
"Thanks for coming," I said as I hugged Brian's dad and brother. I grinned as they and Kevin did that manly hug thing and the three of them left.
"They're clearing out," I muttered. "Once Nick's clan leaves, most of the guests are gone."
Kevin laughed. "Speak of the devil."
"Oh, God, Tim? Hide me."
"No, here comes Nick's clan." He knew I was kidding.
I got really sick of saying, "Thanks for coming," by the time they left, and everytime someone came up to say they were leaving, I almost groaned.
By a quarter after midnight, the only people left were Kev, the guys, the band, all the staff people, and me.
I was on the stage again, my chin propped in my hands. My eyelids were dropping. I didn't wanna fall asleep on the stage.
"Kev, sweetie, can we go?" I called.
"You guys should go," Brian said. "It's your wedding night, after all." He grinned and I gave him a look.
"Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight," AJ sang, dancing around. Nick groaned as the napkin he threw missed the trash bag AJ was holding.
"AJ, quit movin', you're makin' me miss."
AJ ignored him and kept on dancing and singing.
"It's a moving target, Nick," Howie said, helping someone unstring the Christmas lights. "Just start peggin' him. You miss the big, no biggie. You still hit AJ."
A wadded up napkin flew in Howie's direction, courtesy of AJ. Howie laughed, ducking.
"Lord, I'm surrounded by ten year olds," Brian muttered, helping the caterers close up the remaining food.
"You're not one to talk, Brian," Kevin said, walking over to me.
"C'mon, let's go."
I would've cheered, had I the energy.
Kevin and I were driven to our hotel in a limo. I wondered briefly how long the driver'd been sitting there.
I yawned and pulled my legs up on the seat, leaning against Kevin. He put his arm around me and kissed the side of my head.
As much as I tried not to, I fell asleep before we reached the hotel.
Kevin
I ended up having to carry Mary up to the room, 'cause I didn't wanna wake her up, and she probably wouldn't have anyway.
She did wake up when I put her on the bed.
"I'm not sleeping in this dress," she murmured, sitting up.
"I wasn't gonna make you," I said, pulling off my suit coat and tie.
"Unzip me," she said, standing up and walking to her bag. I laughed and unzipped the dress for her.
"Damn," I murmured. This zipper was long, down to her butt.
"Kev, sweetheart, I know it's our wedding night and all, and I know you'd like to do what most couples do on their wedding nights, but I am just too damn tired."
I smiled as she turned around and looked up at me.
"It's cool. Besides, we've got our whole honeymoon, right?" I wrapped my arms around her and she grinned, nodding.
"Right."
I grinned back at her and kissed her.
Shortly after, we went to bed.
I was awakened at 8:00 the next morning by a knock on the door. I say I was awakened, because Mary didn't move.
I got out of bed and opened the door, something I probably wouldn't have done in New York or LA. But this was Tallahassee, and whichever bodyguard was stationed outside our door most likely wouldn't let a complete stranger come and knock on the door.
Anyways.
I opened the door and saw my mom there with Christina.
"Hey, mom," I said, taking Christina from her and opening the door wider so she could come in.
I turned and looked over at the bed where Mary was still sound asleep.
My mom smiled and laughed a little as I put Christina in her little seat, smiling at her. She smiled back at me and kinda cooed, reaching one little hand up. I offered her my finger and she took it.
"Shouldn't you wake her up?"
I glanced over at my mom. She looked up at me.
"No, she's fine. Her stuff's already packed and it shouldn't take her long to get ready."
"You've got an hour and forty-five minutes 'til you gotta leave."
"On second thought..." I took my finger from Christina's hand and walked over to the bed. My mom went to tend with Christina.
I sat down on the bed and leaned across Mary so I could look at her, resting my hand on her side. She flinched a little and I moved my hand. She was too damn ticklish.
"Mary," I said softly. "Time to get up, baby."
"What time is it?" she murmured, not opening her eyes. I smiled.
"8:15. Give or take a minute."
"Are you out of your mind? I'm not getting up."
"You're awake."
"I'm still not getting up."
"We've gotta go in about an hour and forty-five minutes."
"You know it takes me about twenty minutes to shower, and ten more to get dressed."
"I was thinking of joining you," I whispered in her ear so my mom wouldn't hear. Mary smiled slightly.
"Your mother's in the room."
"She'll leave soon."
"What about Christina?"
"She's a good baby, she'll be fine alone in the room for a little bit."
Mary laughed slightly and shook her head.
"No, Kev."
I sagged against her. "You are a cruel woman."
She finally opened her eyes and looked at me.
"Aw, poor horny, Kevy. You'll get some. Just not right now."
I gave her a look. "The wait had better be well worth it."
She smiled and sat up. "It will be."
"God, this is messed up. Before I'm married, I get it when I want. After I'm married, I can't get it at all," I muttered, walking off to the bathroom.
Me
I threw the covers aside and stood up as Kevin sulked off to the bathroom.
"Morning, Ann." I grinned at her as I took Christina from her little seat and the bottle Ann handed me.
"Your son is the biggest whiner," I said as I fed Christina.
"My daughter-in-law is a smart woman for not giving into him. Make him beg." She grinned at me and I laughed, a little surprised.
The room door opened and I looked up. Jerald poked his head in, then opened the door and walked in.
"Mom, we should probably get going so we can get back at a decent time." He glanced at me and smiled. "Hey, Mary."
"Hey, J." For whatever reason, I didn't like saying his name, so I called him J. Just like I called Brian's brother H. I didn't like saying their names.
"Where's Kev?" he asked, walking up to me and looking down at Christina. He made a face and she looked at him curiously. I smiled.
"I think he's taking a shower."
"And sulking." Ann added. J looked at his mother curiously as she left the room. Then he looked at me. I shook my head, laughing.
"Don't worry about it."
He nodded. "Alrighty. Well, we're gonna go. I'll see you later, Mary." He kissed my cheek, and kissed Christina's.
"Okay, bye, J."
He left the room and I finished feeding Christina, then put her back in her seat.
Kevin walked out of the bathroom, a towel around his waist, his hair slicked back from the shower.
"Kev, could you change Christina while I take my shower?"
He nodded. "Yeah."
"Thanks, baby." I kissed him and went in the bathroom.
