Chapter Three

The summer flew by as usual after we returned home. We spent our time searching for an apartment to stay in instead of rooming at the dorms. Near the end of the summer, we found a nice place near the campus that was perfect for us.

“Man I can’t wait until we are all the way down in Florida with no parents for miles and miles!” I said. Ashley nodded her head in agreement. It was only three days until time to leave for FSU and we were getting very excited and nervous while we were packing our things.

“I really hope we can meet some nice new people while we are down there! I was getting really sick of seeing the same people every day at high school!” Ashley remarked as she put another shirt into her suitcase.

“You are absolutely right about that!” I agreed with her. “When you live in a small town like this though what do you expect?” I asked.

“Yeah I know. I am so ready to move to Florida!”

“Me too!”

------At the apartment in Florida------

“Bye Mom and Dad I love you!” I said to my parents as they drove away from my new home. Ashley’s parents had left about five minutes ago.

“Yes! We are FINALLY on our own!” We yelled in unison.

“What should we do to celebrate?” I asked.

“What else? PARTY!!!” Ashley exclaimed.

“Ok let’s go to a club!” I said.

------At Heat Stroke------(the club)

Ashley and I had unpacked a few things and then decided to get dressed to go clubbing. We found a club that looked pretty crowded and stood in line to go in. In about twenty minutes we were let in. We found a booth and sat down to scope out the scene around us.

“Let’s go dance! I love this song!” I yelled over the booming music.

“Ok let’s go!” Ashley yelled back. We danced to a few of the upbeat tunes that the DJ played and then went back to the booth to order some drinks.

“There are a LOT of fine guys here tonight!” Ashley observed from her seat in the booth.

“I was just thinking the same thing!” I said. “After I get something to drink I’m going to go find me one of those guys!”

“Good idea!”

“I know!”

After a waitress finally came over to take our drink orders, we sat and talked about our new apartment.

“You know the apartment is a lot bigger than I thought it would be.” I remarked.

“Yeah I knew there was a third bedroom but from the way it was described in the ad I thought it would be a lot smaller.” Ashley added.

“You know I was thinking that we might need to find another roommate.” I said.

“That would be a good idea, but where are we gonna find another roommate that we will be comfortable living with?” Ashley asked.

“That’s a good question.” I said. “We’ll worry about it tomorrow though. I just want to relax and have some fun tonight.”

“Ok!” Ashley said. “Oh yeah!” she exclaimed suddenly.

“What? Did I miss something?” I asked puzzled by her words.

“Well don’t look now but two of those very fine guys are making their way over here!” She squealed.

Right as those words left her lips, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned around to be met by a pair of the most mesmerizing green eyes I have ever seen. The eyes belonged to a tall guy about 6’2”, and he had light brown hair. To put it bluntly he was gorgeous. “Hi! I’m Ross.” He said with a sexy grin.

“Hi, I’m Jessica.” I said returning the grin.

“Well I was just wondering if a beautiful lady like yourself would like to dance with a nice guy like me.” He said reaching out his hand towards me.

“I would love to dance with a nice guy like you.” I said taking his strong hand in mine. He led me onto the dance floor and thankfully a slow song began to play. He pulled me close and we danced through several songs so closely that I could hear his heart beating rapidly and I’m sure he could hear mine.

“You wanna go somewhere and get to know each other better?” He asked.

“Sure.” I said. “ Let’s go to the booth.”

We walked over to the booth hand in hand. We sat down and he told me that he was a junior at FSU and that he was currently single.(Yes!!) He lives in a dorm on campus but he is originally from Georgia. He was 22 years old, which was a little older than anyone I had ever dated before, but it was ok with me. After all my parents are eight years apart in age so I could marry someone who was 26! (yeah right!)

“So tell me about yourself.” Ross said.

“Well, I’m 18 years old. I’m also originally from Georgia and I am starting at FSU in about a week. My friend, which you probably saw at the table, and I are renting an apartment near the campus, and I am also currently single.” I said.

“Well you sound like a very interesting lady.” He said with that same sexy grin. “How would you like to go out with me to dinner sometime?”

“That sounds great.” I said.

“Well why don’t you give me your number and I’ll call you?” he asked.

“Ok, it is 546-9876.” I said as he wrote the number down on a napkin and placed it in his pocket.

“I wonder where my friend Ashley is.” I said.

“Oh, my friend Ross was going to ask her to dance, so she is probably with him.” Ross replied.

------Ashley------

When that hot guy asked Jessica to dance I thought I was gonna have to sit around alone the rest of the night. Then I looked up and noticed a guy standing near the booth looking towards me. I stared back at him and he started walking over to where I was sitting.

“Hello. My name is Nath.” He said.

Meanwhile, I was thinking to myself that he sure did look familiar. He was incredibly good looking with his sandy blonde hair and tan skin. His eyes were a deep blue, like the color of the ocean. Then suddenly I remembered why he looked familiar to me!

“Did you go to Waterford High School?” I asked.

He looked at me with a quizzical expression and said, “How did you know that?” Then a look of realization came over his face. “Ashley?” He asked.

“Nath? Nath Peterson?!?!” I exclaimed.

“Yeah! What are you doing here?” Nath asked.

“Jessica and I are starting college at FSU in about a week!” I replied.

“Jessica is here too?” Ross asked.

“Yeah that was her sitting at the table with me! Was that Ross Renolds that asked her to dance? I thought he looked familiar!” I said.

“Wow she has changed since the last time I saw her! Yeah that was Ross. We are roommates!” He said.

“That’s great! I’m glad we ran into each other!” I said.

“Me too! Why don’t you give me your phone number so we can get together sometime!” He said with a smile.

“Ok sure!” I said as I wrote my number down and handed it to him.

“ Well I have to go find Ross and get going! It was great talking to you!” He said.

“Yeah I need to find Jessica too! Maybe they are still together.” I said. Sure enough we spotted them sitting at a booth talking. We walked up to them and said our goodbyes to the guys as they left. About 15 minutes later Jessica and I left to go back to our apartment.

------Back at the Heat Stroke------

“Mandy baby! I just overheard some great news!” Nick said to his long time girlfriend.

“Really? What is it?” She asked.

“I overheard two girls talking about needing to find a roommate! I also overheard one of the girls give her number to my friend Ross so I can call him tomorrow and see if he will give it to me!” Nick said.

“That’s great!” Mandy replied kissing Nick on the cheek.

“Yeah I know! Now let’s dance and worry about all that tomorrow ok?” He said with grin.

“Sounds like a wonderful idea!” Mandy agreed.
