Not Really any Spoilers
11/26/00 - Hello all and welcome to the slums... I hope you don't mind my interest in Final Fantasy VII intruding on the MS Website... In my opinion this is the RPG that defines this fine decade of gaming, I don't really know what I'm saying but it sounds good. This area will be home to my rants and raves and speculations. I've been looking for a REALLY GOOD Final Fantasy VII site on the web for some time now and there are many great sites with tons of info about the game, btu I wasn't just looking for strategy, I wanted so much more, like discussions, screenshots, videos, and more. Granted, the greatest FFVII site I have seen yet is the Final Fantasy VII Citadel, check it out, I'll post a link soon, but you can probably find it opn Yahoo or any other search engine.
First off, I want to say that FFVII is one of my favorite games ever and my definate favorite on the PSX. I can't think of any other game besides Xenogears or Chrono Trigger that gave me a certain feeling or mood when I played it. It's like the world that surrounds you at the time becomes incorporated into what you're doing. Movies, Music, Games and the general atmosphere in your life all play a part in this, and later, when you look back on it, you can remember the certain way you felt when you played this game and listened to this music and saw that movie... Let me know if you know what I'm talking about.. I think I must be crazy. ANYWAYS, this mood I had during FFVII I can remember clearly. I remember playing the Temple of Ancients part of the game while I was in Disney World in 1998, I remember staying up til 4 AM at my friend Dave's house playing the game and watching the Ifrit summon spell for the first time... With Xenogears, I can remember playing the game after I got home from seeing The Matrix. Anybody understand what I'm saying? Ah well...
My favorite part in the game by far is the entire Midgar part. Every time I start a new game, I always find it hard to finally enter the world map, because I want to stay and build levels in Midgar, and sometimes I dot that too. I love the entire slums area, I remember listening to the Sector 7 Slums music, Barret's Theme when I first got the game, finishing the first bombing mission... Meeting back at the hideout, all that's still my favorite part in the whole game.
[Here's a quick story] A little while after I got the game, I decided to just start a new game to look at the cool FMV clip, when I got to the first save point, I thought I'd save, where's the harm in that? Unfortunately, I was so used to saving in the slot where I stored my other game, I saved over it with a game that had been barely started. (AGONY) Needless to say, It took me a while to get back to where I was. (I think it was somewhere near Gold Saucer)
1/6/01 - Another thing about this game is the way you can keep playing it over and over, even 3 years after it's initial release. now I'm not sure if this is the same for everyone, but I know that I have played through this game completely almost 4 times since I've gotten it. I knwo there are thousands of other fans who have played through it many mroe times than I have, but it's the only RPG besides Chrono Trigger that I can keep playing. I've been meaning to play Xenogears agaon, but that game takes almost 70 hours to beat, so I though about saving it for when I have a lot of free time on my hands. I've also been playing FFVII on and off for the past few months, seeing how far I can get in terms of stats while still in Midgar, right now I'm in the ShinRa building at level 22 with Cloud's Limit Breaks all the way up to Meteorain, almost to Finishing Touch.
More of my thoughts and feelings on this game to come, until then, check out the Final Fantasy VII Citadel.
