Causes for German Involvment in WW1
-WWI began because of a chain of events and several alliances. -June 28, 1914 Serbian student Gavrilo Princip, a memeber of the militant group called the "Black Hand", assassinated Francis Ferdinand, the Austrian archduke, and his wife in Sarajevo. -Austrians blamed the Serbians and declared they would go to war with Yugoslavia, who was allied with Russia. -Germany also declared they would support Austria if the war escalated. -Germany knew if Russia were to lose to Yugoslavia, Russia would lose a major base in Europe. -Since Germany had recently entered into an alliance with Turkey, it was confident it could win any war in Europe. Thus, Germany entered WWI.
