-They lost land to France, Belgium, Poland, and the League of Nations. -During and after the war extremem hyper inflation occured. In January 1921, there were 64 German marks to a dollar and by 1923 the amount had risen to 4.2 trillion marks to a dollar. -There were terrible food shortages and the loss of land (which made up 14% of Germany's farm land) only accelerated the severity of the food shortages. -The land that was lost contained 74% of Germany's iron ore, 68% of her zinc ore, and 27% of her coal--most of the countries wealth. -Perhaps the worst effect of the war was a near total distrust of Germany by, practically, the entire world. -Instiled in the German populus was a deep seeded hatred and resentment for the League of Nations. They felt unfairly blamed for causing the war. -The German army was forcibly reduced to 100,000 and were not allowed to exceed that number. -The social hierarchy collapsed and the people of Germany were left without any real leadership. -Their lack of confidence in the current government left an opening for a new stronger leader.
