Question :

I live in Denver, Colorado...let's just say I don't have a green thumb. I used to live in Tampa, Florida and had a house full of plants. Then I thought I was great at it, but come to find out, it was the weather/humidity that deserved the credit. I now only have two plants in my home. A large Aloe and a philodendron. They live only with God's help and could look MUCH better. The philodendron looses leaves off certain long uumm vines, until I simply cut out the strand all together. I use Miracle Grow and that helps some, but I have no idea why the poor guy isn't doing better. He hangs in my bedroom and gets the morning sun. Any ideas? The Aloe is big and is totally leaning AWAY from the light.. lol Any idea why? My plants appreciate any help you can pass on to this lil Angel:-)

Answer:
Your philodendron will lose it's leaves once a year toward the end of summer, just cut back like you have been doing, and if you have a south window put your plants there, My husband has 32 african volets in my kitchen, they are beautiful and they flower all year long, as for your aloe plant turn it in the other derection every week or so.

Thanks:-) No South window here, sigh. I will keep the one trimmed and turn the Aloe. Thank you again:-)

Question:

I Have 2 african volets in my kitchen window.
They was gifts. I have never had volets before.
How do I care for them.
How do I water and feed them and when?
Do I cut the dead leafs off ?
How low can the temp. go on them in the winter?
Do I plant them in bigger pots as the grow ?
I live in the south zone 8.
Thank You for any help You can give to Me.

Answer:
Water them once a week, always on the same day, and yes clip off old rotten leaves, have you looked lately to see if you have more than 1 or 2 plants in the same pot, when you get 3 or 4 to a pot size of 12'' seperate them in there owns pots, we put 2 to a pot, we haven't given them anything but water, you don't have to worry about them freezing, they won't in the house, also when they flower and the flower dies off, break off the dead pieces , it's called headheading, you will have flowers throughtout the summer and winter.
If you take the 2 plants that you have and put them in a 14'' pot you'll have a fuller plant and in no time at all you will have more coming up in the pots, did you know that if a leaf gets broken off in the pot that leaf will give you another plant, that why I asked you if you looked to see if you have more than one in the same pot

Question:
I live in zone 7,when is the best time to plant cucumber and watermelons seeds?

Answer:
I live in zone 7
I plant my cucumber and watermelon seeds in late April.....no later than early May. So that by the end of June, the cukes are coming in magnificently and the watermelons are ready for picking by the 4th of July.
Granny Carty

Answer 2:Zone 7&8
We plant The week of good Friday. It falls different every year. We planted cucumbers the Tuesday before this year. We do not plant watermelon as space does not permit. My gardening book says that you can plant tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and a few others as late as June and get a good crop. We planted colored butterbeans in mid June and they should be ready in another couple of weeks. We also have 2 volunteer tomatoes that come up and going to do well.

Question:
I am planning a new patio garden, in Southern California and would love any and all ideas and input from anyone who has more experience than me in pot or patio gardening ideas =)

Answer:
Container planting, like pansies, cactus, or even small palms in wooden barrels and other attractive containers would be nice. You can even container grow vegetables like tomatoes. There are a lot of decorative containers made from natural materials you can use. Hanging baskets are nice if you have an overhead structure or posts to hang them from. Most bedding plants grow well in containers if they have good drainage, even pampas grass can be used in a container.

Answer:
An herb garden is nice for a patio. They can be grown in assorted containers. Tomatoes can be grown, but the container has to be big enough. Cherry tomatoes and peppers are colorful too. Are you going to have a patio pond? You could grow green onions and cabbages if you fix a good cultivated place for them on the boarders. Did you want veggies or flowers?
Angel June

Reply from Angel:
Thank you all for the input and ideas. I probably will not have a pond, but may grow both plants and veggies. I have had for many years several tropical flowering plants such as tuberroses and plumerias and such which I will keep too.
