Background:
Born in Seattle, Washington, Georgia Hough comes from a family with a strong Methodist heritage. Her Grandfather was a Methodist Minister, and that influence has led to an active roll in the church. She has sung in the choir for most of her adulthood, is currently a member of the United Methodist Women and teaches Sunday School.
Her family also has a strong tradition of service. Both of her Grandmothers were teachers. Her mother taught in a both the college setting and in a prison, and she has taught for 26 years.
Finally, on her father's side, she comes from a farming tradition. Although her father did not farm, the tradition and the history influenced much of her childhood.
Education:
Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Georgia Hough has a Bachelor's and a Master's in History. Not only is her degree in history, but she has also taught it in high school. Currently she is teaching Government and Economics, and has taught these subjects for most of her career. Thus her career has given her a good understanding of the underlying issues driving our government and our economy.
Purpose and Goals:
As a high school teacher, Ms. Hough has worked to develop strong citizenship skills in the students she teaches. She thinks that it is a shame that the youth of our country do not take a more active roll in Government. She views her primary emphasis to be to activate our youth. While choosing to make her own decisions, her hopes are to reflect the interests and opinions of the youth, thus making them a more important part of our political process..
