Inuyasha is a hanyo, or half-youkai, or half-demon. He lives is Japan's feudal age during a time riddled with war. His quest is to track down the Shikon no Tama so that he can become a full youkai. However, this task is not as easy as it seems. After stealing the Shikon no Tama, a priestess named Kikyou traps him in a magical spell which keeps him sealed and alseep for the next fifty years.
Of course, fifty years turns out to be long enough. He is freed by a girl from modern day Tokyo named Kagome . And that's just the beginning. Inuyasha and Kagome must team up to restore the Shikon no Tama that accidentally gets shattered.
Inuyasha seems very cold and heartless at first, but he actually is a very caring person...er...half-youkai. He promises to protect Kagome no matter what, and despite their frequent spats, one begins to wonder if he really does love her. He carries a lot of guilt over the death of Kikyou and turns his affection towards her when she reappears, thus the tortured love triangle. So who does Inuyasha really love? Well, I have my guesses but none of the facts, so I can't reveal that here.
