My Poems

Lone Hunter on the Sea By Michael Sanders

As I approach this moment of emperilment, I find myself in a moment of relinquish.
Of neither Mana nor black snow, be this decision for it "was" of a lesser import.

On one side lie the eternal shores of Avalon, with its many blissful delights.
Being a man of metal heart I found this path to be of a fortitude pervious.
If at all these stony gates I do construct.

Waiting on the other side I find a lone Island of sweet mortal standing.
Ever so lonely does the beautiful sparse vegetation stand yearning for the company of this lone soul
Images of a great fortress flood my heart, and scents of home waft by my nose,
and my fortress does get built quickly and hastily.

Owing nothing to the world and nothing so self owned,
I chose the lone Isle to be the base of my new residence,
and within these thoughts I sought mine own Ill suited peace.

I found the walls of my castle easy to climb and bombast,
and the city as easily sacked.
I found myself naked to the attacks of Lancelot and Guinevere,
with sword and silk glove at my throat.
In this I was pleased.

Eyes now wide, Avalon spreads itself to engulf my razed Isle even as the ramparts still fall.
As chaos rode around, calm stood still within me. I sought peace as the sun seeks rest,
I thought maybe in this new mystical wonderful aisle would peace now find me instead.

Till one day Avalon with her sweet embrace vanishes, not a trace of it ever existing beneath my boot.
And I find myself wishing for the previously impenetrable fortress on the beautiful lonely Isle.
Instead I find My breath hard to take as the sea finds my soul within its reach.
