Dragon Slayer

Dragon slayers wear special armor designed to protect them from the weapons of dragons-claws, teeth, and breath. The armor resembles the great wyrms in many ways, for its design was inspired by true draconic avatars.

These warriors consider themselves to be on a holy mission. They often times worship dragon gods, but hate all mortal, imperfect dragons. Dragon slayers are dedicated to one goal-the eradication of dragonkind, which they believe are heinous creations. They study dragons intensely, learning all they can about their foes.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the dragon slayer prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A dragon slayer is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, medium armor, heavy armor, and shields. Note that armor check penalties for armor heavier than leather apply to the skills Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble.

Fear Immunity: Beginning at 1st level, a dragon slayer is immune to the effects of dragon fear. Allies within 10 ft. of the dragon slayer gain a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against a dragons fear effects.

Attack Bonus: Dragon slayers gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls against all dragons, and a +4 bonus against one dragon type studied the most.

Smite Dragon: Once per day, a dragon slayer of 2nd level or higher may attempt to smite dragon with one normal melee attack. He adds his Charisma modifier (if possitive) to his attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per dragon slayer level plus any additional bonuses for high Strength or magical effects that normally apply including smite evil/good. If a dragon slayer accidently smites a creature that is not a dragon, the smite has no effect but it is still used up for that day. Smite dragon is a supernatural ability.

Breath Weapon Defense: At 3rd level dragon slayers take half damage on failed saves against a dragons breath weapon and no damage on a successful save. A successful saving throw also negates any special side effects of the breath.

Enchanted Armor: When a dragon slayer is inducted as a member they are given a specially crafted suit of armor. They may choose any armor type that they are proficient with. Upon reaching 4th level, the armor develops an enchantment due to the long standing dragon slayer oath. When the dragon slayer battles dragons, the armor glows, acting as full plate mail +1 for purposes of determining AC but still only suffers the normal armor check penalties of their normal armor. Once per level, the dragon slayer can attempt a quest to increase the enchantment of the armor by 1. The maximum possible protection is +5.

Special Mount: Upon or after reaching 5th level, a dragon slayer can call upon an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed (if one is not already present) to serve the dragon slayer in his quest to rid the world of dragons (see The Paladins Mount sidebar on pg. 43 of of the Player's Handbook). This mount is usually a heavy war horse (for a Medium-size dragon slayer) or a war pony (for a Small dragon slayer). Dragon slayer levels may be added to existing levels to determine a mounts abilities.
Should the dragon slayer's mount die, they may call for another one after a year and one day. The new mount has all the accumulated abilities of a mount of the appropriate character level.

Wing Attack: Beginning at 4th level the dragon slayer can perform a wing attack aimed at a dragon's wing muscles, this attack has a -4 penalty to the attack roll. In addition to damage, a successful hit will ground a dragon for 1 round per dragon slayer level.

Breath Stun: At 7th level a dragon slayer may perform attacks aimed at a dragon's gullet, this attack is made with a -4 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack is successful, the dragon takes damage and cannot use it's breath weapon for 1 round per dragon slayer level.

Great Blow: At 10th level a dragon slayer may put everything he has into a blow aimed anywhere on a dragon's body. The dragon slayer states how many hit points he is expending and rolls an attack at -4 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack is successful the dragon takes the damage caused by the weapon and accumulated modifiers, plus the additional damage points expended by the dragon slayer. Regardless of the attack's outcome the dragon slayer loses that many hit points.
