Battle Strategies
The following list contains many
strategies and small (yet helpful) hints
that I have found useful in battle.
Some are self-expanatory, others require
much thought and skill (you didn't think
this was going to be EASY did you?).
Battle Tips
- Kill chocobos first in any non-story battle.
- If it seems that your thief is just not strong enough to poach, have a knight or other character class weaken an enemy (particularly the rare ones) and have the thief finish it off.
- Closely monitor your Ability Set sub-screen, making sure that the proper counter-attacks are in place.
- Keep characters close to starting point, let the enemy come nearer, then attack. Never attack head on, unless Orlandu is in your party.
- Have at least one long distance attacker (Archer, Mustado) and one power attacker (Ninja, Agrias) to keep battles even.
- Set 'counter' on a ninja for a high-powered counter attacker. Chances are, he (or she) will counter attack twice!!
- The Monk's Hp Restore is a very important technique. Learn it.
- Remove monster units from your party until a high-level or advanced species of monster is hatched.
Other Tips
- Best Fit in the shops isn't always the best. Try individual items, especially ninja weapons and accessories.
- Take Mediators into story battles, invite human characters, then dismiss them and keep their equipment.
- Learn second & third tier Job Skills before too many basics.
- Be SURE to learn the Squire's Gained JP Up skill early on. Obviously, if you're not using a cheat device, it can be extremely useful.
