Alright, I'm making this page to give you a better idea of where I'm coming from with this site. Consider this a mini-FAQ of sorts. It's aimed to answer any questions you may have about the new site.
What was I thinking creating this site? It's always been something I wanted to do, creating my own site with html. About a month ago when I was pretty bored I attempted to create the site, but soon found out that I didn't know as much html as I thought. I put off making the site, as you can see if you look at my announcements backlogs. During the course of february, I would periodically read web tutorials for html, with this site still in the back of my mind. The only one that really helped me is Quadzilla.com. I don't remember how I found this site but it was very useful, and this page wouldn't be standing without it's help. Most everything you see, though, was all done in the past 4 days (from 2/28 to 3/2).
Whats up with the reviews? Some seem dated and have lower quality than others. I copied over all of the reviews I had on my old page on homestead. I've become a much better reviewer (if I do say so myself) and it's easy to tell which ones were made long ago. In case you were wondering, these are the:
Chrono Trigger
Earthworm Jim
Castlevania 4
Buck Bumble
Castlevania (N64)
reviews. I am pleased to announce that more than half of the reviews on the reviews page were done in the past 2 days, (3/1-3/2)and I'm adding more daily, so after a while I may take the old reviews down or redo them, who knows. It does take a lot of effort though to make a review, the way I do them at least, and I wouldn't want to review a game twice.
What's with the name? Well, I know many of you may wonder why it's "Gameplayers" retreat and not simply "Gamers" retreat. The reason being is, I don't really like the name "gamer", never have. I don't really have anything against it, but it doesn't have a good ring to it if you ask me. My favorite gaming publication ever is Gameplayers Magazine, which unfortunately is no longer in publication. I like that word better as a whole. I myself do not know what I was thinking when I substituted the word "the" with "tha", but it could be because of Tha NES Smackdown, an NES site I really enjoy looking through, resonating in the back of my mind (I'd post a link here to tha nes smackdown if I could remember the url), that would be the only explanation. "Retreat" comes from the fact that this isn't a big-time publicity page, such as IGN or other such sites, it is a place to come when you've grown sick of those kind of sites, and would like to hear opinions from a more down-to-earth player who is just like you. I put the content of my page first and foremost, as you can probably see it doesn't hold a candle to a lot of other gaming sites in the design department, but I think what I have in content is better than a lot of them. I write things I would like to read, and hope others enjoy it too, but if not, that's fine too.
What happened to the list? Have I forgotten about it? No, I haven't forgotten about the 100 greatest games list (for those of you that don't know, I'm devising a list of the 100 greatest games of all time, the voting is closed though). I simply found it to be a much bigger task than I first expected. Perhaps had I sustained the amount of enthusiasm I once had to create the list, I'd have followed through all the way until it was finished. Also, I was saving everything on a floppy disk and all of the data erased, I had to retabulate everything, this didn't help. I'm still going to release it, but it's been set aside for the time being. I'll put it in the features section of my site when it's done, as well as my ezboard.
Well, that's all the questions for now. If I get many more questions in the future or think of any possible questions that may be on your mind I may do a followup ranting to this in the future.
