Painting Flesh
By Don Effinger
Here's my method at this time: Well... I'm afraid my system isn't the best for mass production but it works for me. I will let you know my dark secret if you are 'good'. I've used many techniques in the past and I change a lot. This is my current favorite.
Okay start with a white undercoat. Don't paint anything else. Go straight to the flesh. Don't paint anything else on the figs, no clothes or weapons... nothing. Next I water down (a little) Ral Partha paint "Suntan" 77-807. Their paint I find is very good and creamy. The problem is that it can be a bit too thick so I water it down somewhat so it spreads easier. Let it dry for about 1 hour or more. |
Next I use Citadel Scarab Red mixed with a little brown ink or paint and then some water. I try to get it a little watery. Try not to get it transparent but not opaque either. I don't want the paint too thick or dark that it is a mess. Experience and trial and error works best at this stage. I 'paint' this mixture into the sharp creases or areas for shadow. If you are little sloppy don't worry. We'll fix it later. Just into the eye sockets, under the arms, between fingers & toes, around sleeves, under the chin etc...Do all the figs in your batch this step and do it now. Proceed to next step. |
