Axe Making
By Jim Lennon
I'm building an Ancient German
army using the new Foundry figs and wanted to mix some axes in
with the swords and framae (spears with short and narrow blades). This process only
takes a few minutes to cut and file an axe.
I use a needle file and utility snips but you can
use an Exacto type knife. I prefer the snips but if your
handy with an Exacto, knock yourself out. |
Step 1-Pencil your axe pattern on the plasticard. I use the .60" guage card, it's nice and thick. You can make the axes any shape and any length you need (it also works for swords). Step 2-Cut the card into your chosen axe shape. I leave the handle long so I have more to grasp while filing. Step 3-Use the needle file to file off any parts that do not resemble an axe head. File gently or you risk breaking the axe head or handle off (it depends on which end you're holding when it breaks). Step 4- Take needle file and round off axe handle. Shorten handle to desired length. Prime and paint. |
