MOVEMENT TRAYS
By Don Effinger

Here is a quick and easy method for making movement trays that not only make moving large units a breeze, but are also outstanding storage devices. With this technique, you'll be able to pack and unpack an army literally in seconds! Less time unpacking means more time gaming!

Get some plasticard. A good thickness is .060" or 1.5mm. Cut it to the size that you are most comfortable with. Also, make sure that you don't make the tray too big, it's got to fix in the tool box. This tray has a lip on the front, the direction the troops will be facing.

Undercoat the tray.

Magnetic sheets are available in any craft store. The sheets are flexible and easy to cut with a xacto knife. Some come with an adhesive on one side, so you can just peel and stick the material down on the tray. Put a magnetic sheet fully covering the top and a sheet on the bottom.

IMPORTANT: Do not cover the entire bottom, leave a quarter inch lip so you can easily lift the tray.

Spray the top of the movement tray only. The magnetic quality will not be affected by the paint. Every once in a while you may have to touch the tray up, but that's easy with spray paint.

Don uses Camo green for all his movement trays, except of course, the ones for his NKE or Mycenaean army. Those are painted with a sandy color.

A fearsome Macedonian Phalanx advances toward the foe on a magnetized movement tray. All of the figures have their normal bases glued to metal bases. The magnetic sheeting holds the figures tighly. After the game, the tray with the unit on it is simply picked up and stored directly into the toolbox.
