FFR Intro
By QC, Angel, and Ryan
"School absolutly, positivly sucks," I mumbled, slamming the door to my Oldsmobile. 'School sucks and so does this car', I corrected myself. I glanced up into my rearview mirror, and ran my finger through my tousled red hair. I sighed and leaned back, starting the car. My boyfriend Ryan dumped his books on the floor in front of him and buckled his seatbelt. My best friend Angel was in the back.
"You can say that again," she mumbled. "Hey QC, can we put the radio on?" she asked. I flipped the power on and out came a Bon Jovi song.
"Woo, yeah, Bon Jovi's a hottie," Angel giggled, and Ryan rolled his eyes.
"Big 80's hair bands aren't exactly your type, are they?" he asked. She shrugged.
"Hey, he's hot now." I didn't say anything; Ryan would think I was crazy if I told him Bon Jovi was sorta-maybe hot nowadays.
"Dude, he's like 40."
Oh, now that you know I hate school, have a fugly car and a secret likness for Bon Jovi, I should tell you about me. My real name is Angie, but my nick name's QC. I have brown eyes and I'm a Pisces. All of the people in the car are Juniors at Streetsboro High School. I just moved to Ohio from California after my dad's job transffered a few month's back. Angel and I clicked from the beginning. If I needed a picture-perfect example of a "girly-girl", that'd be Angel. Perfectly manicured nails, long brown hair, brown eyes. However, she doesn't act like a girly-girl. I've never seen such a dainty person kick some buttox like Angel can. Ryan and I hooked up at our Homecoming football game. Ryan's about as skinny as a toothpick, with brown hair and brown eyes. He shuns all things sports related, unless it's football. Obssesed is not quite the word. And that's that.
Anyhow, I'm sure you're wondering why I'm telling you about such pointless things like a ride home from school. Well, it's because that was the last time I ever drove home as a normal person. Hmm? What do I mean? I'm getting there.
"So what are we gonna do tonight?" Ryan asked as we pulled onto my street. I put on my best responsibility voice.
"We're going to study for the Biology test tomarrow."
"No, really, what are we going to do?"
"Well, me and you really need to study, but if we hurry up I got a new anime video."
"Which one?"
"Ghost in the Shell."
"Cool, I wanted to see that one. It's been out for a while, but I never saw it," he finished as I pulled up the driveway. We all bailed out and headed for the kitchen. Grabbing a Diet Pepsi, I saw a note on the counter.
'QC - Went to work early. Dad's working late, he'll be back by six. Katie's at track practice, she'll get a ride from Maria. Love you, Mom'. I set it down and we went to the living room.
"Okay, let's get this studying stuff outta the way," I said, flipping through the text book. "Hmm, Angel, what is the 'power house' of the cell?"
"That'd be mitchocondria."
"Like in Parasite Eve," Ryan said.
"Oh yeah! That's cool when Aya -"
And so the studying was quickly replaced with a discussion of video games, which led to the movie being watched. In the middle of a particularly cool scene, it happened.
"Dude, if I could turn invincible like her, it'd be, uh, cool," Ryan said. I looked at him.
"Even if you had to wear that naked suit thingy?"
"Oh yeah! Ten times cooler then."
"You perv!"
"What?"
Suddenly, the sound on the TV turned to static. I stood up to try and fix it, and was promptly thrown back down by some force.
"Hey QC, what happened? You trip?" Angel asked. I tried to stand up, but it felt like something very heavy was weighing my legs down.
"I, I don't know, something-" I started, then the voice spoke.
"You could be 'invincible' . . . and you will be."
"What the heck? Who said that?" Angel asked, her voice sounding shaky. I stopped attempting to stand up and looked around. The voice seemed to come from thin air.
"Are you ready to accept your fate?"
Fate? What the hell was going on?
"What are you-" I started, but the voice interrupted me.
"Silence, now. Take these powers . . ." If the voice was weird, the light was 100% freakier. The room lit up insanely bright once, then returned to normal. The TV went back to playing the movie with normal sound. After it was over, I could stand again. I faced Angel and Ryan.
"What the hell was that?" I asked. They shook their heads slowly.
"What's in this Pepsi?" Ryan mumbled, shaking his head once more. Angel started to giggle.
"I'm sure we just, uh, you know, thought it happened! Ha ha, that's it. Weather balloons or something." I didn't believe her one bit. Something happened. Something really, really, weird. I walked around the room looking for - I don't know, something - and my leg felt like it was going to snap in two.
"Ow, I hurt my stupid leg when I fell," I said. Suddenly I put my hand to my chest and mumbled something. I felt like I wasn't controlling my body. It felt like something else made me do that. As soon as I said the words, a strange pink light glowed by my feet, and worked it's way up my body. It felt so warm and familiar. As soon as it passed over me, I looked at Ryan in surprise. His face was more surprised than mine.
"Holy shit! What did you do?!" he practically screamed. I shook my head to clear it.
"I don't know! I don't know! I just, did it! Wait - my leg feels fine!" I said in disbelief.
"Something happened. What the hell is going on?" Angel asked. Angel never cursed, even minor curses. I don't know why I noticed that. Maybe it's because if Angel cussed, something really bad must have happened. She stood up from her chair and walked over to me. "Do it again." She demanded. I blinked. "Come on, do it again!"
"I can't! I don't know how I did it!" she closed her eyes and in a blur shot her elbow back. It hit the television with a bang, and she cried out.
"Why'd you do that?!" I asked. She turned her arm over and I saw her elbow. It had a little cut on it, and she was wincing. I gasped, and suddenly that urge came over me. I put my hand to my heart and mumbled the words once again, this time the soft glow passing over Angel. When it was over, her elbow looked good as new.
"Oh my . . ." she started. Suddenly, in the midst of our confusion, Angel's cell phone rang. She closed her eyes.
"What are you-" I began. She put her hand straight out, closed it into a fist, and shot it out straight again. The phone shot from her purse to her hand, and she gasped when she opened her eyes.
"God, what the hell?" Ryan asked. I shook my head. Angel let out a yelp and dropped the phone. It stopped ringing.
"Oh my gosh! I just pictured the phone in my hand, and it was there!" she insisted.
"No way . . . no way . . . " Ryan muttered. "I don't believe this."
"Nor should you." The voice.
"What did you do to us?!" I demanded. The voice paused.
"I awoke your powers. This is you destiny."
"Screw destiny! What did you do to us?" I asked again.
"I awoke your powers. I told you this. Soon, you will come to realize the importance of your powers. All three of you."
"Yeah, yeah, 'awoke the powers'. Why don't you tell me what's really going on? Oh, and all three of us don't have powers," Ryan snapped. The voice chuckled, almost as if making fun of us.
"Your power is yet to be awoken. As for you two, prepare yourselves."
And the voice was gone.
