Just a normal, ordinary day, for a not quite so ordinary person a.k.a the ultra-weird Louise. Yep. Get on the internet, greet some friends, look at my five-hundred hours worth of homework that would inevitably be left to the last minute. Fanfiction called, and my priorities are unfortunately rather less than practical. More importantly, CURRY! I'd asked mum what we were having for dinner, and she announced CURRY! Oh, how I love curry.

So, I wake up, and after my first two hours on the internet, I started to consider getting changed. Another hour and plenty of nagging from my mum later, and I decided that I really would have to get dressed.

ANOTHER half-hour later, and I successfully found a pair of clean knickers. It's hell to find anything in our house. Heaven's sake, I once found a pair of clean socks in a VASE. Then again, it was probably the house's wildlife that caused that. Seriously, the mice are getting smart. And the spiders. I hate spid...

I'm babbling, aren't I? My apologies. So, anyway, half-an-hour after deciding to get dressed, I find something to get dressed in. Black trousers, lilac t-shirt. Pastels again! They seem to be in vogue with my dress sense thanks to Kuja from FF9, who in my opinion is...

Somebody slap me! Seriously, I can't get out of the blabbing habit. It's very bad. Oh, where was I?

Ah-ha. So, I got dressed. Next task; getting myself something to eat. Noodles. Cheap spicy chicken noodles.

Fill a pan with water, plonk it on the stove, switch on the gas, light it up. Now my usual trick; how long can I hold the match before I have to blow it out? Hmm... an inch to go... centimetre... ah man, my finger just set on fire!

Blow out my finger and the match, throw the used match in the bin... hold on a second, my FINGER was on fire? (Bear with me here, my mind works this way, and I really am that slow) My FINGER was on FIRE? "Yes, it was..." I looked around me, wondering where the voice had come from.

"Mum?"

"I'm not your mother. I have given you a gift, child. As of now, you are no longer Louise, but Emerald Embers. You're special, as are several others. You will find yourself drawn to these people... you will sense their powers in a way you can't sense anything else."

"So you're some big 'elder' thing, and my finger just set on fire, and I'm going to do something 'special'. Lemme guess, I'm gonna save the world?" "Yes, I have given you the power of..."

I grinned and started doing a little dance with the mop that had been propped up in the corner of the room. "HELL YEAH! This is what I've always wanted! I always thought I was nuts, the whole vampire obsession and everything, and thinking I was psychic, but I AM special!"

I could picture the source of the voice frowning as it continued, "You're trying my patience. I've given you the power of the fire dominion. You can shape things out of fire, you can start and extinguish fires wherever and whenever you wish. Be careful with your gift." I shrugged.

"Sure, I'm okay with that."

"... yes. Be careful, and seek out the others. You'll find that you already know at least one of them quite well..."

"Bet I can guess who." That definitely got the source of the voice pissy.

"Silence! I'm going now, my time with you is over. Now BE CAREFUL."

"Sure."

The voice disappeared and I shrugged, grinned, before turning back to the cooker, turning the gas on all the stove settings before raising my hand, summoning the energy from within myself, and lighting all the sections up in flames. "Hell yeah... this is great! Man, if those bullies could see me now..."

One of the flames I had started flared up and I quickly made it extinguish by reversing the energy, fell back against the sink. It seemed I would have to take a little more care in future.

I'd just have to get one of the others to show me how the hell to 'shape' things out of fire.
