Rinoa woke with a start. She'd had another dream. For the past week she'd been having the same dream, but something was different this night. Usually the dream had her standing in a field surrounded by black feathers, but this time a single crimson feather had fallen with the black ones.
"What does it all mean?" She thought
"Are you okay, Rinoa?" Squall asked as he sat up beside her.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Rinoa replied
"What happened?"
"I had the dream again."
"Don't worry Rinoa, you'll figure out what the dream means eventually. But until then you need your sleep because tomorrow we start your training for the field exam."
"I guess you're right Squall."
They both laid back down. Rinoa's last thought before she fell asleep being, "What does it all mean?"
When Rinoa awoke she had a sense that something was wrong, but as the morning wore on she decided she was just nervous. Her day started like normal with breakfast. Then Rinoa and Squall went to the training center.
"Squall I have a bad feeling about this" Rinoa said as they walked down the corridor that led into the training center.
"You're just nervous about your training, you'll be fine after the first battle." Squall replied.
They walked slowly into the training center. Rinoa sensed an eerie presence lurking around them.
"Remember that its very dangerous in here so be car---."Squall had been ambushed by two gratts which cut him off in mid-sentence. The wrapped their strong tentacles around him, restricting his movement.
"Run Rinoa, get help!" Squall yelled.
Rinoa turned to run out of the training center but a T-Rexaur was blocking the way out. She was moving into her fighting stance, when from out of the brush beside her a second T-Rexaur emerged. Rinoa turned to confront the monster but it was to late. The T-Rexaur sunk its teeth into Rinoa's body. As Rinoa felt teeth rip into her organs an overwhelming sense of calm and understanding came over her. This was what her dream had prepared her for. Her own death. As she felt herself falling from the T-Rexaur's mouth she also felt her soul fall from her body. Hovering above her body Rinoa saw Squall break free from his captors in a fit of rage and kill all of the monsters. Slowly Rinoa began to drift into the sky and , looking down saw Squall collapse.
"I'll always love you." Rinoa whispered.
As Rinoa was pulled into a holy light she took one last look at her love. He was lying in a crumpled mass, weeping for his fallen angel.
