Part 7

Raven-Chan stood silently looking over the water. The sky was filled with stars and the two moons shone brightly. There were some clouds approaching, looked like there may be a small storm, nothing to worry about.

“Why can’t I sleep?!” He kept asking himself. His thoughts drifted to Ayame (not for the first time since he had laid her down to sleep that night). How did she know his name? Why did he feel so attracted to her? Why did he find it impossible to sleep knowing she was sleeping so nearby… and yet it may as well be miles because it wasn’t with him? So many questions. He looked at his right hand, her skin had felt so soft, man, he wanted to touch her again… What the hell was he thinking?! Raven started to pace the deck. He couldn’t be in love! No! He was Raven-Chan! He heard footsteps and turned around to see his friend Kamui.

“Still up?” Kamui asked.

“Yeah I couldn’t sleep.” Raven said. “How about you?”.

“Your pacing woke me.” Kamui said smirking. The two men leaned over the rail and looked out towards the sea. “So why can’t you sleep?” Kamui asked with no particular tone to his voice. Raven-Chan just shrugged his shoulders. Kamui turned to look at his friend and laughed.

“What?!” Raven-Chan said annoyed.

“She is pretty hot.” Kamui said still laughing.

“I don’t know what you are talking about! Man you can be so weird sometimes” Raven-Chan said, but his tone was very unconvincing.

“Raven-Chan’s got the hots for the new girl” Kamui teased.

“Cut it out!” Raven-Chan said annoyed.

“You can tell!” Kamui said laughing.

“How?” Raven asked slight shock in his voice.

“The way you check her out every time she’s not looking might be a clue.” Raven just shook his head.

“Man! You are so wrong.” He said.

“Whatever.” Kamui said. “You better get in there fast Raven.” He warned. Raven-Chan turned to face him.

“Why?” He asked. Kamui smiled.

“Little cutie like that must have tonnes of guys chasing her!” He laughed again. “Right, I’m off to bed, I’ll leave you here to fantasize about our guest.” Before Raven-Chan had the chance to answer Kamui went down below.

“He has no clue what he’s on about!” Raven-Chan mumbled to himself, but inside he knew his friend was right.

It was hot. Raven-Chan took off his trench coat and took his piccolo. He began to play soft, beautiful music.

Below deck Ayame opened her eyes. She had had that dream again. She could hear music now… was she dreaming? No it was real. She stood up… Raven. He did something to her… something she could not describe. It was a good thing, it just made her feel like she wanted to be with him all the time… could she be in…..? She lit a candle and looked into a mirror hung on the wall beside her. She smiled at herself.

“What is happening to me?” She asked herself. Her hair bobble was hurting her head so she undid it. Her long dark hair fell over her shoulders. She could still hear Raven-Chan’s music. It was beautiful, she silently decided.

Meanwhile Raven–Chan stood there still playing. He stopped when he heard soft footsteps behind him. They were definitely not Kamui’s or Carmilla’s he slowly turned around to see Ayame standing behind him. A warm breeze passed and ruffled her hair slightly.

“She’s so beautiful…” he kept thinking staring directly into her eyes.

“He looks so good, but it’s not just that…” Ayame thought to herself. Raven-Chan realized he was staring straight into her eyes and looked down embarrassed. Ayame did the same. There was a short silence and Ayame broke it.

“I’m sorry I interrupted your music,” she said smiling at him. “You play very well.”

“Thanks.” He said. They both made their way to the back of the boat, not saying a word.

“Can I ask you something?” Raven-Chan asked finally.

“Of course” Ayame said looking up at him smiling. He turned to face her, man he wanted to touch her again… no, he had to control himself.

“How did you know my name?” He asked. Ayame blushed slightly… how was she going to explain this.

“It’s a little embarrassing.” She said.

“Please… I need to know.” Raven said. Ayame looked at him.

“Ok, I’ll tell you.” She said rather reluctantly.

“Go on” He urged.

“I keep having this dream.” She said, starting to play with her hair with her left hand twirling it around her finger like a schoolgirl.

“How cute” Raven-Chan couldn’t help thinking. She looked up at him, he didn’t have his trench coat on so she could see his muscley arms. Man she loved that, she just wanted to feel them around her.

“Go on,” he urged her.

“I’m running through Aelia, I know that it’s Aelia because I had seen pictures in a brochure, but I have never been in real life… well until today.”

“What are you running from?” He asked.

“You…” She said quietly. Raven looked startled.

“For some reason I am afraid of you,” she continued, “Then you catch me, and you tell me not to be afraid and that you won’t hurt me. I ask you who you are and you tell me your name is Raven-Chan and I have no need to fear you…” there was a silence and Raven looked at her puzzled.

“Is that it?” He asked.

“No…” Ayame said, she was really blushing now, she wasn’t even looking at him anymore. “We… erm… kiss.” She looked up at him waiting to see his reaction. He didn’t say anything, he just looked at her quietly and his eyes fell on her lips and he couldn’t help thinking how good it would feel to kiss her now.

He didn’t laugh she was so relieved. She remembered the kiss in her dream… but it was a dream kiss, it wasn’t real, she wanted him to really kiss her. It suddenly occurred to Raven-Chan that their faces had moved extremely close together. He quickly pulled away.

“And then you wake up?” He asked.

“Sometimes I wake up…. other times it goes further than a kiss.” She said still blushing. Raven-Chan could now see why.

“It’s very strange.” He finally managed to say.

“I know, but I’m to tired to try to figure it out now…” She said looking at him.

“You want to go back to bed?” He asked.

“No,” she said smiling at him “I would rather stay with you a bit longer… if that’s ok?” She asked him.

“Yeah that’s fine.” Raven-Chan said smiling himself. He wanted her to stay. He had his right hand leaning on the rail and in his left he held his piccolo which caught Ayame’s eye. She took it off him.

“How do you play this thing?” She asked. She was about to blow into it when Raven-Chan covered her mouth with his hand.

“No! You’ll wake the others.” He said. They were looking into each other’s eyes now, and they could both feel their own hearts beat quickening. Ayame put her hand on Raven-Chan’s and moved it from her mouth to her cheek. He didn’t know what to do. There was an instinct inside him telling him to pull his hand away but a stronger one telling him not to. He couldn’t help it. He put his other arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. Their faces were moving closer and closer every millimeter made each one want it more…

At that moment the sound of thunder was heard, Raven-Chan jumped and Ayame screamed in shock. They felt cold droplets of rain staring to hit them, lightly at first but they got heavier.

“We have to go inside.” Raven-Chan said to Ayame. He led her by hand below deck to the captain's room. It was small, but it had a bed and a fireplace. Raven-Chan let go of Ayames hand and went to start a fire. Ayame laughed.

“I’m soaked.” She said, stating the obvious.

“When I get this fire started we'll be okay.” Raven-Chan said not turning round, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control his feelings like before. Ayame took of her soaking wet jacket revealing her slender arms. Raven-Chan finally got the fire started.

“Thank god!” Ayame said as she sat down next to him. Raven-Chan sat looking at her, she was sitting so close to him, the rain had soaked her clothes and made them cling to her body…

“Uh! Why am I noticing these things?” He said to himself. Ayame looked over to him. “You seem to have gone very quiet all of a sudden.” She said smiling at him. He turned to look at her with his piercing blue eyes, the moment she looked into them she felt so weak. It was as if she would do anything for him.

“I can’t think of anything to say…” He said quietly still looking at her. To Raven’s surprise Ayame cuddled up to him, close. “Ok.” She said quietly. “We don’t have to talk.” She looked up at him with her deep brown eyes. Raven-Chan couldn’t help it he put one arm around her pulling her closer to him and with the other he held her hand gently playing with her fingers.

“This feels so right” He kept thinking to himself. Ayame yawned carelessly.

“I’m kind of sleepy anyway.” She said. Raven just laughed. Ayame didn’t want to go to sleep but she was so exhausted, it had after all been a very long day. With that she closed her eyes and after a few minutes fell asleep. They were both dry now so Raven-Chan carried Ayame to the bed for the second time that night. This time he lay down with her and held her tight in his arms, it was strange to him… why was it only now he felt he could sleep…
