FUJIN, DRAWING
Quistis has Trepies. Rinoa has Winghearts. Selphie has the International Church of Satan...
Poor, sweet Fujin just has you and me. -_0
My hopefully helpful hints for drawing the most unappreciated female character from FFVIII. (Except maybe Xu, but she doesn't really deserve it 'cause she's having an affair with Cid. Oh, and Adel, but I already did my tribute to "The Beautiful Sorceress.")
But let's move on to the good stuff.
HAIR, COOL
Fujin's hair is nice because you get some artistic license with it. It's just one of those things; the sketch of her hair appears differently than it does in the game.
I've found two sketches that are extremely helpful in getting both her hair and Fuu kanji:
I'm pretty sure the grayscale one is official, and the color one looks just like it.
In the game, however, it looks more like this:
I sketched that right out of the book so it's fairly accurate as to what her hair actually looks like. It's kind of similar to the hairdos you get in WWF Attitude. (Which I don't play.) It's flat to her head in most places, and a medium gray. (I used about 40% black, if that means anything to you.) (...) (Yeah, okay, so I tried to make a Fujin in WWF Attitude)
Generally, her hair only goes down to her chin and is always parted so that more hair is over her eyepatch. Anywhere further than that, you can have fun and use you imagination! (I feel dirty now, having said that.)
CLOTHES
Since I'm making this nice little guide, I figured it might be helpful to put in something about Fujin's clothes. Unless you're drawing hentai, or something. To each their own, I suppose. ^_0
My lamer sketch of Fujin's costume
Fujin wears a blue shirt with long sleeves and gold trim. It's tight around her arms and waist, and hangs down from there. She has lotsa pockets. Her pants are baggy navy blue, tucked into tight-looking black boots that go almost all the way up to her knees.
She also has a metal Final Fantasy VII-type arm-guard just below her
left shoulder. Remember that her symbol is

STUFF, MISCELLANEOUS
Please, please, PLEASE remember that the eyepatch is on the left side. (Her left. If you look at her, it's the right side.)
Fujin is right-handed. When she talks she gestures with her right arm a lot, but she never moves her left arm. She and Raijin often move in sync - they nod at each other and stuff. (Which I think is really really cool, being the dork that I am. ^_0)
Anyway, Fujin's weapon looks like this, but if you're feeling spunky and like variety you can give her any weapon you can give Yuffie Kisaragi, or any of the projectiles from Rinoa's shooter thingie for those of us who don't like Yuffie Kisaragi as much as I do. [ :Þ on you! ] Oh -- and it's my mission to name the thing "Kamikazi." Wouldn't that be a perfect name for Fujin's weapon? In a fanfic, perhaps? Hmm?
Her eyes are a kind of RED because she's an ALBINO. They're not BLUE because... um... beacuse she's STILL an ALBINO! (thank you.)
Fujin does not seem to me like the kind of person who has animated facial expressions. (She's kind of like Squall in that sense. In fact, she's a lot like Squall in a lot of ways, isn't she? Doesn't talk much, generally anti-social, similar hair, huge crush on Seifer...)
So Fujin isn't animated. But you can get a lot out of what little she gives... she has a kind of sad-and-afraid but still PROUD and DIGNIFIED thing goin' on, am I right
Of course, if you're cartooning her like I always do all over my Spanish notebook... then anything goes. Especially when she's around Seifer. I always like to give 'er little heart-eyes and have her shamelessly hit on him and he never notices. That's OOC and downright wrong, but fun as hell. And you know that's what she WANTS to do anyway, right?
Am I just rationalizing my actions again?
Whatever. Just get to drawing.
